Went to a new dr today as well for my foot bone problem. He says there are non-surgical options to treat it. We are a little doubtful of alternative medicine (he uses mostly pressure treatments and anti-inflammatories) , but hey, it is not like std treatment has gotten us anywhere at all. So far, so good, as I am in a tape brace and it is less painful. I guess I am being a baby. It is not like I do not go around with my wc if I will need to be on my feet for more than a short period and I now always rent an ECV for vacations.

For anyone in Illinois, it is actually quite easy to get a placard. Your dr fills out a form and you fill out a form, and the dr mails it all in. I was certified as having a permanent orthopedic walking problem with intermittent use of a wc. I suppose I just don't like the "disabled" label, esp since the dr said I should do it and stay off my bad foot more than I do.

I always say, if the treatment doesn't involve surgery, you may as well give it a try.
And here's for your parking permit:Pinkbounc

I know it is hard to not think of yourself as "disabled" when you get a handicapped parking permit. however, the parking permit will hopefully give you a new found freedom to get around. I wasn't sure about getting a handicapped parking permit until I read/lurked on this bb about 3.5 years ago. It was comments from various people here that encouraged me to ask my orthopedic doctor about it. I now have one. Some days are better than others - some days I sue it & other days I do not. Just remember you are taking care of yourself & it is ok to do so :)!

Good for you Ms.Cupcake!!

I think I know the type of tape brace you are talking about.. I hope it helps!!

Just think with your placard you can now park right next to Wrigley Field! and it was only $16 last summer... that is a Deal! Go Cubs!
