My DD has asked for a Webkinz for Christmas and I'm not sure what they are? I know you can't get them in any store like Target or Walmart. They are in stores like Halmark.

Any help would be nice.

DD is 11 almost 12, is she too old for this toy??

they are a wonderful stuffed animal available at hallmark or specialty toy stores, which come with a code enabling the child to play in a virtual world with the pet. Around here, they are extremely popular for ages 4-14, the birthday party gift of choice.

No I know alot of parents that help their children with them. You can also get them at Limeted Too and Justice for girls stores now.

If she is too old then I am in trouble LOL I play with my daughter's webkinz all the time. ;)

In your virtual room you have to earn money to be able to buy things at the store. The main way to earn money is by playing games. You have to feed your webkinz, and sometimes they get sick and you have to take them to the doctor. You can buy lots of room and decorate them with different themes. You can also buy an outdoor room and build a garden, you can sell all the produce you grow.

If you really get into it there is so much to keep you coming back. There are rare items you can only buy at certain times, and exclusive items you can only get with a new pet or a certain number of pets....the list goes on. LOL

I'm sure she will have fun with her Webkinz now!! Maybe I should get myself one :lmao:

Thanks to all who have posted!! :thumbsup2

My kids are 10 and 12 and they love their Webkins! It's very cute, and I really enjoy watching them building their rooms and take care of their Webkins. They have friends that they can "invite" to their house online. They aren't very expensive, I think I paid about $10 for the smaller ones, and they get a lot of fun out of it.

One thing I don't think the other posters have mentioned is - it is safe. There are no direct chat functions - everything is scripted in the open area. EX - A child can pick from a list of questions to ask and then the other child picks from a list of answers. There is one forum where the kids can chat, but you must authorize use and there is a dictionary of words that can be used. So your child couldn't type in thier address or phone number. My kids have several webkins each - It's Granny's favorite gift to give. My dh is addicted to playing with thier webkins online. He's always racking up points for them. I'm too busy on the DIS board!:wizard:

Go to the website www.webkinz.com
My son has 22 of them right now! We LOVE them. Some of the games can be addicting. There are some good things too besides games. They are supposed to help teach responsibility. You need to feed them put them to bed and take care of them. We are growing a garden and raise veggies & fruit once a week! Very addicting and a bit educational.

My kids love them. The web site offers educational games that earn more points and there is always something new to discover. My kids love to cook for their pets... buy a grill/blender and a cookbook and then go shopping for the ingredients.. its really fun! I sneak in some games to win points - just so we can go shopping for fun stuff like scooters or swimming pools. I love that the web site is secure but I don't let my kids "chat" yet.

My 2 older boys (6 & 8) love Webkinz! There are a lot of fun games to play and they enjoy all of the daily activities.

I agree, it is a total OBSESSION.. so beware!! LOL , My dd just got her first this past July, and now has 23!!! Ok, and i MAY just admit here -- that i myself have 10.. LOL, and now, my MOM has her own! LOL
It is a great stress reliever at the end of the day.. We love 'em!! But, be prepared.... you WILL want one yourself!

I definitely don't think your daughter is too old for them. I know a LOT of adults who are addicted to the site. I, myself, don't see the draw, but my kids love them. Webkinz are a big hit at our house.

Just be aware--they are very addictive!! Don't say we didn't warn you!

Looks like I might have to get her a few more!! It's good to know that the Webkinz web site is safe. DD's will be 12 in Feb. I'm sure She will ask for more then. :goodvibes

Glad to see I'm not the only parent who plays with their kids webkinz, I really should get one of my own.

Anyways, most of the Hallmark stores and flower shops around her sell them, but one of their things is that they don't sell them at big chains like Toys R Us or Target.

Watch out, it becomes addicting trying to find the new ones when they are released, although I think they are a little better now about keeping stores supplied. For a little while it was like the old beanie baby thing.

My DD will be 10 in November and that's all she wants is more webkinz. It's nice that it is online and there's a stuffed animal too, so you get double the pleasure.

Have fun.

My DD received one as a gift at a party and within a week all my other kids had to have one too. I think it's a great, safe and fun way for the kids to use the internet. My kids are 10, 9 ,7 and 5 and I'm sure older kids like them too.

:yay: Webkinz are great. My kids have way too many but at least they still play with them on-line a year later. What a great gift - something they will still play with after next month. And I must admit that I play too and was a little addicted to some of the games etc. I have recently broken the addiction and am now addicted to Disboards. Trade one for another.:rotfl2: In truth they are a really great gift, the only disappointment is that the price has gone up over the past year.

My dd just got 3 for her 10th bb,she just loves them.

I actually bought my daughter her Webkinz at a shop at MGM last month. I never even heard of them before...but she knew exactly what it was...
Now that we are back home....they are, of course, a little cheaper, but seem to be soo popular!

Are you kidding me? They have these at WDW too?! Do you mind me asking what you paid for it at WDW? It is a reg. one or a lil' kinz?

On a side note - today is October 1st - don't forget, the POTM for October is a frog. So, if you adopt a frog this month, you will get all kinds of extra goodies. But, it is only the REGULAR frog - not the tree frog, or bull frog.. etc.
