I recently gave my dog and cat the "Hartz Control One Spot" for fleas. My cat became very ill he didn't eat, he had a fever, he stayed in a ball on the sofa with his head tucked under his paw and wouldn't move, he didn't use his box his muscles were so weak he had a hard time getting up and down the stairs. He has lost his fur and a there is a scab where I placed the medication on the back of his neck. I rushed him to the Vet where they helped him with medication and an IV because he wasn't drinking. I am now continuing medication and he is doing better and eating (knock on wood). But his muscles are still weak and I hope it is not long term damage. I have done several searches on the internet and it seems that there are thousands of animals that have been affected by Hartz products especially since the family that owned it for over 70 years sold it to some big corporation. Many have died. Just do a google search and type in problems with Hartz flea meds. There are hundreds of pages on this. I'm just posting this in order to stop someone else from unknowingly hurt their animals.

THAT'S TERRIBLE!!!!!

I hope your kitty is better soon...

Thanks for posting this.

thanks for warning other pet owners about this. I hope your kitty will be okay. How is your dog?
Please keep us posted.

I hope Kitty is going to be Ok :grouphug:

I went though something similar thing with my cat about 3 years ago. It wasn't a Hartz product but when I use it on him he started running all over the house, trying to rub it off. I called the vet immediately and the very FIRST thing they asked was "Is it a Hertz product?" and did it say for BOTH dogs & cats on it. It wasn't hartz and it was only for cats which the told me to wash off the cat immediately. They also told me to check for a specific ingredient (that’s also in Hertz)- ….Did all that, washed the cat, he was OK….

They told that they receive tons of call regarding Hartz stuff ( and this is just my local vet) and the cats should never be giving ANYTHING that is for dogs, unless by a vet, because dogs and cats body are vastly different and a cat's liver can be easily damaged. Things like Tylenol can be given to a dog but will kill a cat.

I wish companies like Hartz that know that their products are doing this, would just stop it and take some responsibility!

Again I hope kitty is back to himself soon!

Just wanted to update that my kitty is doing progressively better. And wanted to say that the flea drops that I gave my cat were specifically for cats. Thanks to everyone whos inquired about his health. I will post back if there is an update. And just to let you know that there were no adverse affects on my dog (who got the dog version of the flea drops). Thank God. And I've added pictures of my cuties.

Aww Little Miss Liberty your fur kids are so cute!!!

I'm so glad they are all ok! I had some Hartz flea stuff in my kitchen drawer and because of your post have since threw it away! Thanks for your info! :thumbsup2

I'm so glad. I just want to help out other pets!

Your cat is beautiful in what little I can see of her in the photo. (that's a big ole hint that we want to see more of her and her canine companion.) :teeth:
