 My copy of Walt Disney by Neal Gabler has arrived

I'd had my eye on this in hardback but didn't want to cough up the price but its on Play at £8.99 in paperback at the mo.

I've got quite a few books now on Walt and the company incl Disney Wars which goes through the Eisner years and What Would Walt Do which covers the period following his death when they would ask that question before making big decisions.

Anyone else got any more recommendations?

Did you enjoy Disney Wars? I'd love to read it but didn't want to read something too complicated as i'm not too familiar with business stuff if you know what I mean!

Yeah I did like Disney wars - some of it was a bit businessy (not sure if thats a real word!) but there were elements of how the Disney family and ethos worked that I really enjoyed about it. I just skim read the boring bits. I opened the Walt Biography last night and the writing is really tiny so going to take a while to get through!

I had the biography for my birthday last year.....but I've still not read it! It looks good and the reviews I've read have been favourable. :thumbsup2

I enjoyed American Original by Bob Thomas but I usually tend to buy the more "lightweight" books on the parks and attractions ~ I like looking at the pictures!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have asked for Walts biography for my birthday, I intend to read it in August on my 11 1/2 hour flight to LAX for our trip to Disneyland!! I love reading the Disney field guides, I wish they would do one for DLP.

No I haven't - I got sidetracked by Gordon Ramsey which I am also reading. I've got a hectic weekend ahead so hope to settle down next week and get into it. As soon as I do I'll post my thoughts on it.

My copy arrived today too, I'm saving it though to read next month on my 11 1/2 hour flight to LAX. I figured it was the perfect book to read en route to Disneyland.

I love reading the Disney books :-)
I finished reading the Neal Gabler one, but it was so hard on the eyes!.lol..still good though.

I might buy the 'disney wars' one, but like u say was worried it woud be all about the business??

Ok well the introduction was heavy going. Lots of big words for a girl like me! But have started into chapter one and it's all good so far - going back to look at Walts grandparents and settling in Florida. It is tiny print though.

I may very well treat myself to this :thumbsup2
I've watched the Biography Channel programme on Walt's life several times and it's had me in tears everytime, his Imagineers talk so fondly about him and his death affected them so deeply, it's very emotional.
