Just returned from an exhausting but fun week in the parks and was motivated by seeing (again) the One Man's Dream "attraction" at MGM to try to find a biography or two of Uncle Walt. He was a unique individual, and I'd like to read more about his very interesting life and career.

Can anyone recommend a good book or two?

The Man Behind the Magic is very good.

I just finished, Walt Disney:An American Original by Bob Thomas.
Got it at Barnes & Nobel.
I really enjoyed it, it covers Walt's life from beginig to end and through the opening of Walt Disney World after Walt's death. It also talks alot about his brother Roy and other Disney family members.

I highly recommend it.

I agree with Jenni on "Walt Disney: An American Original." I bought it a couple of years ago when we were down in WDW and I really loved it.

Kinda OT but I just read Divinci Code and was really wondering if all the things written about Walt Disney were purely fiction or not. :confused3

Well let's put it this way...
The Da Vinci Code is a work of fiction.

Even the things the author claims to be true (i.e. about the paintings) have turned out to be false (all you need to do is a search for the paintings themselves and you can see for yourself that it's not true.

Please don't take works of fiction as a factual thing.....

I have several books about Walt, including ones mentioned above, but I haven't had time to read most of them. Two that I had read a lot of are a little older (I bought them before I had kids... i.e When I had time to read!!).

- The Art of Walt Disney (Christopher Finch)

- Disneyland, Inside Story (Randy Bright)

I especially like the second one, written by a former Imagineer...

Hi YECIM, I have the Bob Thomas book. I read it a year ago. If you like it, PM me your address and I'll pass it along. Passing a book helps me declutter, so enjoy! :goodvibes

Hi, I know you are asking about a book, but I thought I might suggest a DVD I bought called "Walt - The Man Behind The Myth" which is an awesome extended version of the short movie you see in MGM. (I really enjoyed that MGM movie too!) It is about 1 1/2 hrs long and very interesting. I bought it at WDW, but it is also available online at Amazon. It is a very enjoyable & touching documentary.

Thanks, lives4disney. I found it at Amazon but for much less on eBay: $16 = $4 shipping.

I may pick up a copy.
