We are off to Disney in 23 days. My youngest LOVES planes. We have a couple matchbox airplanes. Do you think he could bring them on the plane, or would they not clear security with all of the restrictions?

Also, what are some other ideas for toys on planes?

TIA

As long as he is willing to put it on the belt for the screening he can bring them on.

No knives, guns, pointy scissors, or liquids > 3 oz.

Of course, I always print out the TSA guidelines and carry them in case someone is having a 'day', but have never used them. I typically bring kiddie scissors and needlepoint needles and have never been challenged.

The Colorwonder stuff is great on planes. My son always took some type of figures to play with. Snacks also keep them happy while flying. The kids also have this hand held Disney Yatzee game they love.

this is our 1st flight with both boys, ds4 and ds2. I bought a few colorforms fun pockets, and similar playsets but it is magnetic. I also got a book from Klutz-chicken socks, it comes with 4 rolls of colored tape and you stick pieces on the different pics. also the books with the invisible ink pens. We have a 4 hour flight so I have been stocking up:)

I believe they have travel sized Aquadoodle mats. (Maybe even Thomas the Tank Engine themed ones.) You could bring the empty pens on the plane then fill them up with water in the bathroom or with bottled water purchased on the plane.

I was going to suggest the same thing. We got these travel aquadoodle books and my DD LOVES them (she is 2) I am going to buy more becuase she is obessed with them. And they can't dry out fast enough for her. LOL!

The planes you are talking about are fine and so are the cars! I used to always have a few new surprise ones in my bag to be brought out on the flight-cheap,small and not an excess amount of packaging that takes up room. The little plastic soldiers or cowboys that you get in the dollar store or Walmart are great to. lots to play with light and cheap if lost! If they are 3 or so transformers are a lot of play time for not to much room. Action figures work great to, like the star wars people or the small GI Joe's or whatever super hero they are into. My guy mostly played with his cars or figures through many, many hours of flights.

Instead of Color Wonder or Aquadoodles we go w/ the travel version of the DoodlePro (used to be called the Magnadoodle). I prefer it because it is all in one and needs nothing else. Also, there is nothing tiny to drop on the floor! The last thing I need is to be chasing markers under the seats!

Dd (6yo) will have her Leapster and our past trips as a toddler she loved a few Little People characters and a cup! In and out for the entire time!

Ds loves all kinds of vehicles so I am sure he will have a number of small cars, etc in his backpack for our trip.

Enjoy!

Don't bring toy unicorns! We were actually stopped at security and it took 4 TSA people to decide if we could bring them.

We have also had success with playdough. They have those small cups of them, and my kids have spent endless hours playing with them on airlplanes. Very inexpensive, too.

The first flight with our 18 month old son, I brought along the doodlepro, stickers, color wonders, etc. He wasn't old enough to know what to do with stickers. The next flight (age 2), I brought along a disposable placemat and put it on the tray thing and he stuck stickers all over it.

The color wonders didn't work out so well for us, because I don't like picking the markers up off the floor.

We considered bringing along a portable DVD player, but decided against it since he protests so loudly when it is turned off. I didn't want to hassle with his crying when the attendants ask us to turn it off.

The best thing we brought was cookies! We brought some homebaked ones, also some small packages of mini oreos and mini nutterbutters. Those were all a hit. We even gave a packet to a little boy crying nearby (with his mommy's approval).

Also I stopped at our local Disney store for a couple little toys. The first flight he got a little Nemo phone. The second flight he got a Buzz Lightyear thing that looks sort of like a blackberry. Those occupied his time for quite a while. The toys talk, but no one could hear them once the engines started.

I have heard of people complain about the smell of playdo though. Also if you do a portable DVD palyer, bring headphones as people also complain about the noise of that.

I did the travel magnadoodle thing too. Most of the stuff I brought was surprise stuff, so that made it more interesting. I also bought a package of pipecleaners nad then let her just twist them and put them in shapes (mostly circles) and htat was fun for her. I showed her what to do with them and then she would have me bend some in shapes she would name as well.

My ds will be 3 in October and is just getting into the small toy cars/planes. I think I will buy a couple new ones just for the trip. Thanks for the idea! :thumbsup2

We take Color Wonder, stickers, color forms, fun snacks that I don't usually buy (yo-gos are a big hit with mine), and this time I am taking the video Ipod. In the past I have taken washable crayons and I am skipping those this time because he kept missing the book and coloring on the tray. I usually only hand him one Color Wonder marker at a time to avoid the problem of them falling on the floor.

I am not the best flyer, so I really enjoy flying with my little guy. He keeps me so occupied I forget to worry :lmao:
