I booked a trip to Toronto and Niagara Falls over labor day weekend for 4 nights. I have purchased tickets to see Lord of the Rings, Medieval Times, and Cirque-Avia. Then a friend of mine that lives in Chatham, ON tells me that I must be crazy to go to Toronto over the holiday weekend. Can someone tell me is it really that bad? I expect long waits (for Maid of the Mist and CN Tower), but is it tolerable?

Welcome to the Canadian Boards!

You should be fine! It's no busier than any other Metropolis!

Niagara Falls area may be a bit crowded. But then it's always crowded no matter what time of the year!

You'll Enjoy LOTR! I've seen it twice!

You might find traffic going from one city to the next busy.

Good Luck and Have Fun!

Oh, try to get to the Ex too!

The ex being on will make it more crowded in that area than it would otherwise be.

But CN tower and the other events that are ticketed should not be impacted.

Traffic on the 400 (towards cottage country) will be brutal but it should be ok between Toronto and Niagra.

Have a good time

I love being in Toronto and Niagara on holiday weekends because all of the locals are out of town. It is so nice in Toronto that weekend! (stay away from the highways leaving Toronto and you will be fine!)

You will love Lord of the Rings and Medieval Times!!!!

Have fun!

And there's a big comic book expo at the Metro Convention Centre that weekendl. ;)

You've got lots to do and I hope you have fun here. Remember to cheer for your knight!

I wouldnt go near the CNE ( ex) but You shouldnt have a long trip between the falls and Toronto.

Have fun

Seeing as though you've already bought tickets for Medieval Times you should be aware that it's located within the Exhibtion Grounds where the CNE is taking place. Leave your car at your hotel and take the TTC (streetcar and bus) or a cab or pay $20 for parking and stress yourself out driving.

You should also check out the Pirate Festival going on at Fort York, which is just outside the CNE grounds on the other side from Medieval Times.

Thank you all for the advice. Fortunately I don't have to worry about driving, we're taking the train to Toronto and Niagara and we'll rely on public transport while in the city. I suppose we should get to Medieval times early. What is the pirate festival?

The Pirate Festival looks like it should be loads of fun, and it's family friendly.

Don't know if you're aware of it, but if you're taking public transit (TTC), you can buy day passes for each day of the weekend (apparently including Labour Day now). It's $8.50, and good for unlimited travel all day for 2 adults and 4 kids.

Hope you have a great time! Just let us know if you have any more questions.

Don't worry about crowds, we were at Niagara Falls for the Canada Day weekend, and even with the '2 nation celebration' going on, it wasn't an issue. Maid of the Mist was amazing, but a friend was just there, and said the whirlpool boats are a must. He said it is an hour ride, with water up to your knees. He said he would've paid $50 bucks to do it again.
