OT: the PC Party volunteer just called me a s**t disturber!!

Isn't that how it always is?

And I would vote NDP if it weren't for Howard Hampton. Wish they could find a more appealing candidate.

And our local PC candidate tagged our street with his signs. I was offended. No one asked me if he could post a sign on my yard, it just appeared. What should I do with said sign? Although that part of the yard is on public property, since I do upkeep the yard, I think candidates shouldn't be able to post signs just cuz they were driving by. Nasty!

You're probably right, it probably has always been that way, but I was too young and idealistic to realize it. The three main leaders are all hard to choose, the stoic/lack of personality of Howard, the sneaky weasal looking McGuinty, and the snake oil salesman Tory. Yikes! As per the sign, you can't legally remove it (municipal land), but you can put up a blank 'vote!' sign close on each side.

I am still undecided;
Don't like the reduced funding for separate schools
Don't like the additional 2% fuel tax (the 30% rise in 10 yrs is enough)
Don't like the idea of further Public Service cuts
Don't like the $10 minimum wage
Don't like the reduced labour laws
Don't like Have/have not healthcare
Don't like LHINs

Love the Tories plan to move government offices to other communities. Harris moved several to North Bay, at astounding costs; new buildings, new letter head, moving expenses, staff relocation expenses, start up fees, etc. "we will move offices to areas hit with lost employment".....and expect the people there to afford to retrain? No, expect the staff to relocate, adding minimal new jobs, for large amounts of wasted money. Then postings will occur, becuase no one wants to relocate to that area, and they can't fill jobs......smart, s m r t .....smart.

I would love to be a government accountant....each party is making billions of dollars in promises, $8.5 billion in increased healthcare, $800 million in new education funds(up to $2.4 billion in 4 years), $15 million to culture and arts, another $5 million to cultural attraction, $100 million for research and development programs at Northern Universities, yet no new taxes, no cut in MPP wages, and no new income........how does it balance?

I can't understand Eleanor. No-one on this thread has expressed any real feeling towards any party, in fact they've expressed a lot of cons for each party and have certainly raised some issues that I had not thought of. I agree that I will vote for the least repulsive.

::yes:: I think that we've been extremely civil in this discussion. And I appreciate all of the information that I've been getting. So far, only one local candidate's office has been in touch with me-twice. I guess the others aren't interested in pursuing our vote. :confused3

They will tell you anything to get in, but once there.......it is all about $ and staying in.

Yeah, they all skew the truth, lie, and exaggerate. We need to be informed, weigh the records from the past, listen to the "promises' of the present and hope for the future.

I've got to tell you that this election is very confusing for me. I have never had a more difficult time making up my mind before. :confused3
I will freely admit that I have NO party loyalty....I vote for the party that is proposing to serve my needs best at the point in my life that I am at. :rotfl:
(public) Education and healtcare are at the forefront of my most serious concerns but environment as well as day to day living costs are very important as well.
I believe in nuclear power and other "clean" sources of power but until it is up and running and can provide enough energy to maintain our current needs, there is still a need for the coal burning plants. I live in an area where loosing power can do alot of damage and even just the possibility of the plants in chemical valley not getting the power they require to run smoothy and safely frightens me:scared1:
DS just started JK and already we are being told that the school will be closing:sad1: and how will we ever afford to send DS and DD(2) to college?
I am a SAHM...so we are a single income family...we try to follow a budget and things that are mostly out of control such as Hydro rates, natural gas rates, gasoline, are definitely of importance for us.
I don't believe that raising min. wage is the answer to fighting poverty in our province, in fact I believe that by increasing it too much will have the effect of small businesses closing...and I believe that it was in the last election that one of the party's platforms included the importance of small business in a healthy economy.
It will definetly be a vote for who is going to do the least amount of damage over the next 4-5yrs as opposed to who can do the most good which is what an election is supposed to be about.:sad2:

Would the PC party's plan involve privitization, high buyouts, purchasing power from the States, and de-regulization? Since that worked so well for us a few years back. I love the 30% spike in costs.....

Seriously though, Nuclear power is the route to take, and they have reinstated reactors at Bruce Nuclear, so it is going in the right direction. /QUOTE]

Ding ding ding ding ding!!!

OP here, and this was my main issue with what the PC people were saying. Ontario has a contract with the states to supply them with x amount of energy. We HAVE to send them that energy, and usually, we can make enough for ourselves on top of that. But if it's a hot summer day, we have to fulfill our contract with the states before we can supply our own needs. So, on those days, (we had one just last monday!) we have to purchase the energy back from the states. And, we sell is for about 4 cents per unit, and buy it back at 70 cents per unit!! :scared1:
Here's there other thing that made me livid. The person told me that the energy we buy back wont be from coal, but that's an absolutly, bald-faced lie. You can't chose what energy you buy back, it all gets fed into 'the grid', and you get it from there. The energy powering your computer right now is a combination of nuclear, wind, coal, and everything else. So, what we will have (IMO) is a whole bunch of Canadian jobs lost, and we'll be paying through the nose for american energy that is even worse, because their plants are so much 'dirtier'. We have the technology for 'clean' coal plants. It's all about the filters on the stacks. Lambton Generating station is one of the cleanest in North America. Nanticoke is another story, true, but a little bit of an upgrade would drastically reduce the emissions, and we could still keep jobs and money in Canada!
So yeah, there's the whole story. I'm quite surprised this turned into such a heated thread!

I believe in nuclear power and other "clean" sources of power but until it is up and running and can provide enough energy to maintain our current needs, there is still a need for the coal burning plants. The Liberals are trying to keep the energy/power topic under the table and not bring it to the fore front during the election. They are running scared with the power issue. It is a big topic right now, believe me. DH is on the phone with them every day for hours...........

if the Liberals wanted to save face, all they need to do is mention that it was the PCs that shutdown reactors at Bruce Nuclear (Libs have reopened), it was the PCs that sold it to a British corporation ( it was the sale of this asset and subsequent buyout packages that have contributed to driving up our prices), it was the PCs that wrote this purchase contract which is also contributing to higher rates, and it was the PCs who de-regulated the power which is contributing to higher rates.
The Libs made a promise they couldn't keep, and they gave incredible severance packages to execs caught embezzling, so they are guilty as well. Unfortunately for them, we seem to forget what happened 5 years earlier.

Privatization was a bad idea, and Tory is pushing for more. When they sold the MTO contract, the companies waited until the machinery was sold, and jacked up their prices. When they sold the rights to the 407, the company jacked up prices. When they privatized 2 provincial jails, they found out quickly, that services went down, and costs went up. When they contracted out lab work, we got Walkerton. When the brought in P2P recreation facilities...costs went up.

Libs= inaction, taxes, fence sitting
PCs= lower taxes, services for the wealthy only
NDP= higher taxes for better services
Green= higher taxes for cleaner environment
FCP= serfdom for lower classes.

All parties make promises. All parties lie. All parties use the same excuses. They are all the same. The only difference is their name.

Digskat,

"I love the analogy, peeing on the leg...have to remember that one." My wife says it's a Judge Judyism.

I just wish any political party was held accountable for their promises. I would like to decide on their respective platforms and pick the one that I agree with. If they get elected whether or not it was my pick or the majorities, they would have to follow their platform as stated. That way no one could say they didn't expect X, Y ,Z from Joe Blows party and none of this the books are so out of wack crap because it's getting old.
The three major parties have all pulled that excuse in the last 15 to 20 yrs not to follow their platform citing the last guy screwed everything up, "we must fix" so we can't do what we promised. It will take 4yrs, please elect me again then I'll do what I promised. Pederson, Rae, Harris and McFly have all said this. It's not suprising that an informal poll at work I could not find 1 co-worker out of 20 that was going to bother voting. "Why waste the time because they are all liars" was the basic answer to why not.
The sad thing is that people have died and are dying to this day to protect our right to vote but people are so disillusioned that they think there is no point in doing so.

I'm so glad I'm going to Disney soon to get away from the real world. Re-reading this is sounds like I Really, Really need it!

Chris.
