I also posted this on the Budget Board, but I though that you'd have some good answers...

DH and I would like to go tent camping with my sister, her DH and their two kids (7 & 3) this July (tentatively 7/18-7/20). We're trying to figure out where to go that's within ~ 3 hours from the Philly area that has some attraction nearby (beach, amusement park, touristy stuff, etc.). We'd prefer not to go to the Jersey Shore (BTDT).

Can you help me think of places that we could go that'd interest both adults and kids?

My thoughts:
Hershey Park
Chincoteague
Rohoboth
Lewes/Cape Henelopen

Tell me your experiences - good and bad...

Also, is it possible to have two tents on one site? DH and I have a 4 person tent for the two of us, and Dsis' family has another... I'd like to share one site if we can.

Wow - 79 views and no posts... Never mind.

Sorry you got no responses. I have never camped in this area. Again sorry

Hi there! :wave2:

Don't give up. I think everyone is trying to catch up on the MDGG thread(s). I would help if I could but I'm from down south. You may want to check out some of the Jellystone Parks in the area. I just did a search and looks like there's one in Quarryville. Jellystone Parks are always good for families. Here's the Jellystone website:

I have heard that the campground at Hershey Park is a lot of fun. We looked at the website and put it on our list to do. I also heard the campgrounds in the Poconos are really nice. I am from Ohio so don't know much about PA area. I also wanted to add that we like to camp at East Harbor State Park on Lake Erie. I am not sure how far away that is but you have Cedar Pointe (the best roller coaster park)about 20 min away, Put in bay, Port Clinton & Marble Head Ohio all right there. If you would like more information on this camp ground let me know. We just booked 2 trips there so far and have 2 more left to book. We go about once a month.

Each individual campground has rules on what can be on sites. Most campgrounds have "tent" areas where there are no restrictions on how many tents, but no water or electric at the site.

If you want water and electric at the site you'll need an RV site, where they may restrict the number of tents allowed. You just have to ask the campground you decide to stay at.

Hershey Park is great, we stayed at the Hershey Conewago a few miles away. :thumbsup2

There was a whole half hour show on rvtv on Hershey Park. It made me want to go and make reservations there right away, however, with diesel the way it is, the fort is as far as we are going for a while. From what I saw on the show, the campground is A+ and has lots to do even if you are not going to Hershey itself.

I'm going to offer another destination -- Gettysburg. There are some great campgrounds there and there is the battle field plus it is reasonably close to Hershey.

Also I know it's a little further but Williamsburg is also a great place

Thanks guys - I'm sorry for the frumpy 2nd posting... I didn't mean it the way it came out 'cross the net.

Anyway, thanks for the input! I had also mentioned to Dsis about Gettysburg or Williamsburg, which DH and I would love, but she'd like to do that when her youngest is a little older - she's only 3.

AurburnJen - were you talking about Hershey's High Meadow's campground? I've heard both good and bad things about it (the main "bad" being a freight train track edging the campground).
