There were rumours a while ago about Target taking over Zellers. Their brands are almost the same I find anyways. But it never materialized. I never go into Target when I'm in teh US, I find it the same as shopping here.

Even if Target did open up stores in Canada I found that at their locations in the United States their items are more expensive then Wal-Mart, if both stores are selling the exact same products.

Target rocks over Walmart and Kmart. I can only hope they make it out west some day!

How exciting! I hope it won't just be a Target...I hope they'll be SUPER TARGET.

So many new and interesting products at Target -- not like Zellers at all IMHO. The best product I've found at Target (a product that has yet to appear in Canada) is the 3-in-1 Purex laundry sheets. The laundry sheet is detergent/dryer sheet/anti-static -- great for travel use as it's not powder or liquid. A great invention for people like me who seem to spend wayyy too much time in the laundry room.

I so love Target! However, we just got one down in Plattsburgh, so I don't foresee them coming to Montreal soon. Plus, it's a good excuse to drive down for the week-end!

I work in the U.S. and am at Target at least 1x week. I have to agree, although they tried to model Zellers after Target...it is nothing like Target. I'm not a fan particularly of Zellers and I LOVE Target. It is the first store we hit when my sister visit's from Toronto, as it is her favourite...until I introduced her to Kohl's!!

Personally, I don't want it to come to Canada! That's where I find all my neat stuff!

I like Target a lot - hate Walmart! I do like Zellers as well, but it depends on what store you go into.

Zellers, is owned by Hudson's Bay Company (which in turn was purchased by Jerry Zucker in 2006). Following Zucker's death in 2008, the private equity company NRDC Equity Partners took over (they also own Lord&Taylor, which you may have confused with Neiman Marcus).

Target never had any ownership interest in Zellers. However, the now defunct department store chain "Towers" was bought by HBC in 1991, and most of the Towers stores became Zellers.

Thanks - I know that Zellers is owned by Hudson's Bay, that's why I mentioned that Hudson's Bay (parent company) was sold. I did confuse Lord and Taylor, but I could have sworn that Zucker had a stake in Target at some point. I am on my way to research it, as it's driving me crazy!

My fingers are tightly crossed! We love going to Target in Buffalo but it would be awesome to have one on this side of the border.

Now if only we could get IHOP going up here too!

I just received a letter from "Capital One" that they have purchased my HBC MasterCard from G.E. Money.

Would this have anything to do with Target taking over Zellers?

It was confirmed a month ago here that the Zellers in Chinook Centre and the the Zellers in Market Mall are both being switched to Targets.

In ontario I seen those sheets at shopper's drugmart.

I like Target and hope it is like the states, cause I don't like our super walmart here but love the one in port huron. I don't want them to just change the name but not offer the samething.
