OT: Suspected Terrorist on my street

Are you PUI (posting under the influence)? You said yourself, that you wanted to live in Toronto, but your wife didn't because the media glorified gang killings.

It really is difficult to follow the reasoning. When you find that your digging yourself into a hole, what's the first thing you should do?

Stop digging.

F4disneyfan - your wife needs to stop watching CityTV or Pulse24 or whatever they have it branded as now... Actually, she should turn off Global news too with their "team coverage" too with 5 different angles and suggestions as to what happened.

She watches global and CTV news at night and then I get to hear all the great stories about the idiots in Toronto killing each other and that I had better not ever transfer there becasue she is not going bla bla bla. Toronto is only as bad as you make it hell you can make St Thomas a terrible place to live also it all depends on your outlook and your demeanor with most things. Toronto is no worse than living here in London if you know how to deal with people I have childhood friends that grew up at Jane & Finch and their parents still live there and have never had any issue with anyone in the area.

The kids in London, aren't real gangsters, I deal with them all of the time. The EOA, Los Locos, MBD, Chaos Crew, etc., are just kids trying to emulate the movies. They claim to be bloods or Crips, but two days later, are hanging out with 'rival gangs'. There is a biker issue in London, but the out of control kids, are exactly that, out of control kids with weapons, not gang bangers.
I am not sure where your murder story was coming from, or what your point is with it. I agree, it can happen anywhere. 2 summers ago, an elderly man was murdered during a home invasion, in a rural community of less than 100. I questioned your allegation that the media played up gangs, not your desire to live in Toronto. The only issue I have with Toronto is the traffic, and crazy cab drivers.

Yep there are biker problems in LONDON but low and behold you hardly hear a thing about them I know Larry powell from teh Hells Angels personally from teh bike club I belonged to he used to give us free booth space at the Lodnon bike show every year till city hall shut him down with respect to running it and that all came about after the show in 01 I think it was when we were there and the Bandidos showed up and the Rock Machine paraded through and a number of others patrons ran out of that building with fear of being injured they all figured a war was going to break out right there in the pavilion. All I can say is that peopel are going to have differing views on things and my first post to Sandra was not condoning it was well wishes and my idea of what could be done to help out others don't like that to bad it is afterall my opinion no one elses you don't have to agree with it just as I don't have to agree with anyone elses opinions so people need to suck it up and deal with the fact we have different views about things.

My point was that the news outlets I mentioned have a problem with "glorification" and "exaggeration" and suggestive reportage... and I think the way this past week has been covered shows that...

I live right downtown Toronto, in the core. No problems. I walk to work and back every day and evening. I'll walk home from the bar at night. No fear, no one bugs me and I'm not a very intimidating female either. I've been doing that for 6 years now. I've never heard a gunshot, never been mugged, stabbed, raped, beaten, etc, just chased once or twice by crazy mental people who I wouldn't give spare change too who were probably quite harmless.

I've only felt fear once and that was last summer when 2 women were hit at random with stray bullets in the east end of the core - opposite of my direction, but still... So now I call home when I leave and usually my other half will come meet me halfway.

Toronto is a terrible place :rotfl:
Our police services are lame :rotfl2:
Our streets are very dangerous :goodvibes

Anyway... we're :offtopic: I think it's getting time to quit this thread before it gets sillier.

I agree Toronto is not a bad place at all to live like I said I would love to live there. People make way more out of many situations than need to be most of the time. Ok back on track now...

I happened upon this post and as an American I am glad to read that many of you recognize that a terrorist plot or attack is not the victim's fault. After 9-11 and the start of the Iraq war, I read some posts from Canadians making exactly the same points against America that F4disneyfan is now making against Canadians. And Americans defended themselves with the same points many of you are now making. Your soldiers in Afghanistan are heroes and and it is ridiculous and offensive to compare them to the maniacal terrorists who plotted to destroy your government.

As you are recognizing, we are all in this together against radical fundamentalists. It makes no difference what your foreign policy is, whether your country has been for or against the Iraq war. America has been attacked by radical muslims over the past 50 years regardless of what party our president was in or whether he was a liberal or conservative. We too see ourselves as peacekeepers and not aggressors. Our teenage boys and girls are dying every day in Iraq with very little help from the rest of the world in order to make Iraq a safe place.

Now with North Korea and Iran acting up, the US can't even respond properly because we are over-extended. The US has a missile defense program but Canada declined to participate in a joint program and now North Korea has missiles that can reach North America. It is a scary time for both of our countries.
