So...we are driving to Myrtle Beach in July. We plan to leave between noon and 1pm and drive until between 9-10pm. I'm thinking we might be able to make it to Summersville.....or at least I hope we can because I know there are lots of hotels there. Driven to WDW many times but always drove much farther south than Summersville area before stopping.

Who has stayed there and where did you stay? We only want a clean room and breakfast. I looked up a few places there and there are some really cheap rates if I book now. The Super 8 and Sleep Inn have good CAA/AAA rates.

If you don't think we will make it that far are there any suggestions??? We don't usually make any stops other than for gas and washroom breaks. Most likely we will pack dinner in our cooler but we might stop to eat for 20 minutes or so.

My husband and I have stayed in Summersville, WV several times, as it's our mid-way stop when we drive down to the Smoky Mountains from Toronto.

There are plenty of hotels in that area. Of the two you listed, I'd stay at the Sleep Inn before I'd stay at the Super 8. (And indeed I think we have stayed at that Sleep Inn.)

Be mindful of specifying a non-smoking room if you're a non-smoker. We've tried getting a room in Summersville when it was very busy and all the hotels had left were smoking rooms. (We kept driving to the next big city instead.)

If you're looking for a meal, there's a good Italian restaurant in an old bank building. It's called Dominic's at 800 Main Street. It's a very nice alternative to typical on-the-road food, and definitely a step up from the restaurants you'll see on the highway where all the hotels are.

One final note. Summersville is notorious for being a speed trap. Watch your speeds and stick to the posted limit. From Wikipedia, "Summersville, especially along U.S. Route 19, is well-known as a speed trap. In 2001 the police department of Summersville issued 18,133 tickets. Because of this, the city has been seen on several network TV programs including CNN, CBS, CBC, and the BBC. As late as 2007, the National Motorists Association ranked Summersville as the worst speed trap in the state of West Virginia."

Where are all the GTA to WDW drivers???? :confused3 I know there are tons of you out there and many of you have mentioned stopping in Summersville. We are using the same route to get to Myrtle Beach.

What hotels have you stayed at in Summersville?????

Sorry, normally leave around 8 at night and drive through to Savannah or beyond. Never stayed there

We've stayed at the Hampton Inn, in Summersville. It gave great CAA rates, plus a very clean room, with a nice, hot, breakfast.

LOL....I'm at the Hampton in Niagara Falls right now.

I think the Hampton in Summersville had the highest rate of all the ones I looked at but will keep it in the running.
