My 5 yr old son wants to see the Star Wars movie. It has been many many many  :) years since I have seen it. Is it appropiate for a 5yr old?

:rotfl2: Read the OT - violent movie thread.

The original 1977 (I think) movie is fine in my opinion. We are very conservative with movies, and we watched it with my DS when he was in kindergarten.

My DS loves the orginal triology. His favorites are A new Hope and Empire strikes back.
Even at 10, he does not like the scene in Return of the Jedi where Jabba the Hut is killed.

The newer movies are more graphic.

I cant find the violent movie thread. I know I saw it the other day:confused3

Well if the original came out in 1977, that means I was 6yrs old when I saw it 31 yrs ago:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

My 4 yr old loves it, I thought it was fine.i remeber my parents taking me and I was 4 yrs old when it came out.

I would stray away from 2 of the 6 movies, for a 5 year old.

Attack of the Clones (Final 20 minutes a little violent, Jango Fett is beheaded)
Revenge of the Sith (Another Beheading, watching all the Jedi die, and Anakin catching fire and burning)

I love the Star Wars series to the point that my youngest daughters name is Leia. I let my 5 year old girl watch all the movies, but those part I do make her go out of the room or cover her eyes. I think it is on the same lines as the last few Harry Potter movies so if your kids have watched them, they should be able to handle Star Wars.

Hubby let DS watch Star Wars : A New Hope (the first released) at 3, and his behaviour became atrocious. So we stopped watching it, and let him watch it again at 4. He could control himself more, and he LOVES the movie.

He's since seen Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, AND Phantom Menace. He's on a hiatus from them (though right now he's playing with a lightsaber having a battle with an invisible opponent, LOL) b/c he was watching them too much and his behaviour was getting too aggressive again.

We actually bought the "limited edition" DVDs of the original trilogy (at Costco, 9.99 each) b/c they have the new digitally enhanced versions AND the original versions. Some like the enhanced version of Star Wars for littler kids b/c Lucas changed it so "Greedo shoots first" and it lets you think Han Solo isn't a bad guy (though if you watch the original you'll see and hear that Greedo is just about to shoot Han, so it really doesn't matter, it's still self defense). We like the original version, though, and are sure to read the subtitles for Greedo so DS understands that Greedo is about to kill Han.

Anyway, with those 3 DVDs we have 6 movies, basically. :)

But be prepared...I am routinely asked to put my hair in side-buns so I can be Leia, and I'm still expected to get a sewing machine to make a good Luke costume for Halloween...:upsidedow

We let DS 3 watch Star Wars and we are careful with what he watches. THe violence in that is so different from real world violence that I am not worried about it.
DS LOVES Return of the Jedi and Phantom Menace best
We took him to see the Clone Wars cartoon last week.
He is a star wars fanatic already. Makes DH proud

I agree that the original 3 are more suitable for younger children. I don't even care for the latest 3...and I am a huge Star Wars fan and a Trekkie. The latest 3 are way too graphic and violent IMHO.

My kids watch them all and have for about the last year. Now my youngest doesn't watch anything he is not interested in...he will just go find somthign else to do...but they were not scared of them at all...and my 6 yea old is scared of EVERYTHING!!!!

My 4 and 5 year old boys are begging me to take them to see it this weekend. I'm not even sure I want to see it. I'm always weary of PG movies at their young age.
