Hi

I know I am OT, but since DSpirate: is crazy about cars and we would have to living under a rock to not see all the advertisements for this movie, I am wondering has anyone seen it? DS is almost 4 and begging:worship: to see it, I don't think it will be ok, its rated PG13 and the thought of paying $9 for him to see also makes me nuts.

But cost aside, any thoughts about the movie for a younger child?

Thanks!

I maybe a bad mom, but I took my DS13, DD6, and DS3 to go see it last weekend. They all loved it.

Looking back, there was some violence that was kind of freaky (a guy is ordered to stick his finger into a tank of pirahnas, there is a driveby shooting into a semi trailer rig, the cars themselves are sort of Car-Fu fighting)

Language I can't recall, other than your requisite potty jokes. Sex, there was none other than a kiss in the car.

I wished they could have made it PG, it didn't need to be PG-13 to have kids clamoring over themselves to see it. I even enjoyed it more than I thought I would - - I was prepared to doze off!

I have a DS9 and a DS6, and I know that neither will be allowed to see the movie. After seeing the previews recently, I just don't really think that it is a "kid" movie. I don't know if you have cable though, but we have a channel called "Nicktoons" and there is a new cartoon series about Speedracer, and my 6 year old is just nuts about it.

I'm sure there are others who will think it is fine, but even most of my DS9's friends aren't seeing the movie either.

My daughter saw it...and didn't enjoy it. My MIL took her so I can't tell you what she didn't like about it. However, my MIL did tell me that it was only PG so I better go have a little chat with her!!!

I was surprised that they used the three letter word for bottom a few times and I think they said h-e-double toothpicks once. I told my ds when we left that I didn't like that part of the movie and that we don't talk that way.

I didn't like the scene in the movie with the piranas also...they could have shown that these were the bad guys in another way.

Otherwise, I liked it.

I think 4 is young, but that's just my opinion.

My 6yo Ds only liked the race scenes, he was a bit bored with the plot of the movie.

ok , I think I missed something, I thought is was PG and should have been PG13 IMHO.... We went last weekend, and I thougth it was very violent, and never ending movie!! I hated it!
The kids seemed to like it enough, it would have been great if it was about 90min but it was over 2 hours...

I think it might be one of those movies that either you will love or hate...

I don't think I would take a 3 (almost 4) year old to see it. We don't take DD (7) to any PG-13 movies at the theatre - we rent them and watch them ourselves first if she's really bugging us to see them - cheaper and it lets us make sure they are appropriate for her. After watching several clips of the movie online, I told DH that I was upset they took a kid's cartoon (which I love!) and made it into a "grown-up" movie (but that's just me!).

Maybe you could put that $9 for the movie ticket toward buying one of the seasons of the original cartoon on DVD - I think they run about $20 at Target (among other places), or you could rent one and see if he likes that!

**Edited to say that it IS only PG-rated, however based on the 15 minutes or so of clips I have seen and the commentary from a friend who has seen it, we would choose NOT to take DD7 to see it. **

ok I just doubled check speed racer is infact PG....

like i said I thought it should have been pg13 and I wouldn't have taken my kids if I knew how violent it was going to be...

Don't be afraid to tell him no! My 3 year old loves cars, but he will not be seeing this. I know I am in the minority, but I don't understand the rush to see PG 13 movies. My 9 year old just saw Pirates of the Caribbean, and he is aware that we have to check out the new Indiana Jones movie before we decide whether he sees it. My 6 year old will not be seeing it. I just think they grow up so fast, why rush it?:confused3

My dd7 went to see and there were children younger there seeing my mom was going to take my nephews who are 4 and 5 but she decided that two hours and twenty minutes was too long to sit through it w/ them so she is waiting till it comes out on dvd.

My kids loved the movie, but we take them to see r rated movies and my DD8's favorite show is House. I wanted to run screaming from the theater the first half hour or so because it was so boring, but then it got better. I think the plot was too confussing for a kid that young to understand, but all they want is to see the funny kid with a chimp and the race cars.

I know how you feel. My DS2 is dying to see this movie. There is a huge poster up for it on our way to my DD's school that he sees and mentions every day. His dad went to see it in advance to check it out and said no way. He was going to wait for the DVD and then edit out the violent scenes, of which there are several apparently. I think it would have done better if they had made it more toddler friendly. Who loves cars more than a 2 or 3 year old?

Thanks for all the responses. I have decided to skip seeing this movie. After reading your replies, I know my first instinct was right, it is not appropriate for him.

Instead I think we will a family trip to Prospect Park Zoo and pack a picnic.

Thanks again and enjoy your long weekend.
