OT Son may need surgery ..we leave in 5 weeks

AAgghh!!! My DS 7 had to have hernia surgery in May 06. He was off school for 10 days and had very limited activity. He comes home today from school concerned that something doesn't look right. I am almost 99% sure he has another hernia. I am going to call the doctor in the morning. We have everything paid for our trip in 5 weeks. I am not sure if we should see if the doctor will wait until after our trip, or try to get it done asap. Noone told me that being an adult was so much fun.

Get it done ASAP!!! He might make the condition worse on the trip. Then you'll have paid for a hospital stay in Orlando instead of a vacation.

Call the dr. today!! He will tell you IF and when you need to have the procedure done. Kids heal SO fast that you may be fine for the trip.

I agree with the others. I would never gamble with his health by waiting! My DS has had 5 surgeries, 2 of them major surgeries inside his chest, and he bounces back quicker than I'd ever imagine! In fact, we will be in Cincinnati undergoing another week of testing about 3 weeks before we leave for WDW! Hopefully, if he does need surgery, they could get him in quickly and give him plenty of time to recover!

We just got back from the dr. Its definetly a hernia, but she made it sound like it could wait until Thanksgiving break. I am still going to try to have it done before then. However with DS already missing 5 days of school for our trip, its going to be rough on him. Plus I know the school wont be happy.

To top everything else off, I had my DS2 with me. He has a small place on his scalp that I had the dr look at. She said he has ringworm. He has to be on medicine for 2 months. We have crummy insurance since DH is self employed. His medicine is going to be $200 not to mention we have a $2500 deductible. We just got everything paid off from their last surgeries at $5000. It would have been nice to have the money for our upcoming trip to pay toward these, but a week at Disney sounds really nice right about now.
