OT: selling a swingset

I totally think it depends on your area. Around here the Rainbow swingsets sell like hotcakes on craigslist. The 10 yr old ones sell for about $1,000 (sunshine castle or bigger), and they go quicky. Last fall we purchased a 1 year old Fully loaded super Rainbow castle (with the monkey bars, 3 swing beam, ect...) for $2500, they purchased it one year ago for close to $6000 but were transfering out of the area adn couldn't take it with them. I tried for a good year before I was lucky enough to get one. All the other ones I tried for were sold before I had a chance to respond, and I was responding the same day I saw the add. I recommend researching on craigslist to see what people are selling and what price they are asking, and how long the ad is up on craigslist. Do that for a week or two and I'm sure you will get a good idea of what your swingset is worth. As for people wanting to take it down, there are PLEANY of people looking for a decent swing set that are willing to take it down to save a few thousand. With all honestly, it really wasn't as hard as it looked either.

I think it totally depends upon where you live and is very local even from town to town.

In my town we see a lot of them disassembled on the side of the road just waiting for someone to take it away and we also see a lot of them in the local paper free just come and take it away - so here your swingset would be worth a big fat $0. (I live in a very affluent town tho so lots and lots of people buy the sets new - which may be why so many are given away)

We also see some in the regional paper, where people do try and sell them - usually these are the high end sets - but as PP mentioned they only ask about 10% of the original value - highest price I've ever seen was $500 - I don't know how many of them actually sell given how many I see sitting around for free.

We bought one several years ago at Toys R Us on sale for $699 and we sold it years later for $500 on craigslist and had them take it apart and take it away, I would think you could easily get $1000 for it.

I'd check Craigslist and see what people have listed on there for your area and price yours based on that. Tell your friends that you are listing it and they can choose to buy it or not.

I guess to each their own, but we had a neighbor sell a Rainbow that they had for about 7 years. Paid a little over $4000.00 for it and sold it for $1500.00, with the understanding the buyer had to take it apart and haul it away. The seller got about 50 phone calls the 1st day.

Guess it depends on supply and demand.

I thought you were talking about me for a minute there! :lmao:
We bought a rainbow off craigslist last summer for $1,500. It was what we had budgeted for the new set at Sams Club. The rainbow was way better, and still in perfect condition.
And it is fully loaded...monkey bars, swings, tire swing, straight slide. tubey slide....our backyard is better than McDonalds! Heck I go down the tubey slide myself somedays!
We are pretty handy people (definition: my husband will NEVER pay someone to do something he is capable of) and it only took a day to get it put back together at our place. The hardest part was getting the dang tubey slide back on at the right angle!

We have a Rainbow Playsystem... it was around 5k... I know a few people who have craiglisted theirs for about 1500-2000... and gotten that.
Being about 4-5 years old...
Obviously the cheapier Target ones arent going to resell for that... But I know Rainbow will come out and dysmantel the system and take it someplace else for a fee... and If I remember it wasnt that much...
good luck!

Take a photo and post it on Craigslist. Start high and lower the price until it sells.

On a side note, we had a 10 year old wooden swing set (nothing too fancy) that we wanted to get rid of, so we offered it for free but you had to come and take it apart. I had over a dozen calls of people wanting to take it! It was a win-win situation - it was out of our yard and someone got a free swingset. There are handymen types out there that taking something apart and putting it back together is not such a big deal. The plastic slide alone sold for $50 in the store.

I recently sold a bunch of my old toddlar outside toys (step 2 and little tykes) for about 60% off. Its was not a swing set but there is def. a market for used outside toys. Especially with the economy down I think everybody is looking for ways to cut corners.

LOL

The swingsets around here sell great. Rainbows last a long time too.

Shoot as a pp stated most kids stuff at least around here sell great. I sold a Little Tikes playhouse for more than I paid for it and got about 40 calls . Also sold a ball pit, plastic ride in cars, another playhouse and a kids swimming pool. The resale market is good around here.
