Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone has heard of or applied for the Second Career Goverment Program. Apparantly the program will fund recently laid of workers to be trained in a high demand field.

Does anyone know what the process is?

Thanks.

Just contact your EI worker and they will set you up..

keep in mind that even if you were laid off, if your "line of work" is considered in demand then you will be denied.

A friend of mine as been a marketing manager for the last 15 years, but since 2001, has been laid off every 18 months (basically, the company claims tough times and guts marketing).

She applied to this program, as she was sick of the bouncing around, and was denied as marketing managers are considered "in demand".

Note that they are currently pushing people into nursing careers ...seems to be the biggest need ..

Hi bdoyledimou,

Thanks for your response. Did your friend actually put in an application and then denied? Or did they deny her from putting in an application? I was told you have to prove you cannot find a job in your line of work, you need to do an extensive job search and attend job search seminars , have an assessment etc. A very long process. Did your friend go through the process?

Would administrative work be considered in high demand? I`d hate going through such a long process and then being told NO.
