Hi all,

I know this is a little off topic and I apologize but, I wondered if someone here may know first hand about D.C. marriage license requirements or may have actually had their same sex wedding there? DP and I are heading up to D.C. and Baltimore week after next to visit family and plan to apply for and pick up our marriage license while there. After research, I think I know all the requirements but I'd like to bounce this off someone and see if there's anything I'm missing. I know that there is a 3, sometimes 5 day waiting period between applying and picking up your license. We will apply that Monday and hopefully (fingers crossed) pick it up Friday on our way home. We will be going back in November for a simple JOP wedding at the court house, so we have time. We just figured it couldn't hurt to go ahead and get that appliction in hand. I believe we each need a photo ID/driver's license and possibly social security cards at the time of application. It looks like a blood test is no longer required for any couples. I believe we will need to go ahead and schedule our wedding date with the court while we are there also. So, does this sound correct? If anyone can think of anything I am forgetting please feel free to chime in. I do not want to get all the way up to D.C. and not have something in hand that we need. I know that was long and thanks to anyone who is still reading. Any input would be much appreciated.

We got married in DC and you do not need your social security cards, just photo ID. When you apply for the license you need the name of the person performing the ceremony so they can verify the person is registered to perform weddings in DC. If you are getting married at the courthouse then you should not have a problem. The ceremonies are actually done in a room off the room you apply for your license. If either of you has ever been married before, you also need the divorce papers . DC law says you have to be divorced 30 days prior to getting married again. Poor couple in front of us could not get their license because one of them had just had her divorce finalized the day before.

The process is pretty simple and everyone we encountered was absolutely wonderful. We got married on our 23rd anniversary and in March will be celebrating 25 years of being together with 2 years of marriage at WDW with our 3 grown children, their spouses, and our first grandchild.

Awesome! Thanks so much for the input and congratulations on your upcoming anniversary. 25 Years is an amazing accomplishment :thumbsup2
