Okay, here is my situation.

Several years ago, I switched to Sprint for my phone. Then Rogers bought out Sprint, so I ended up with Rogers home phone. Last fall, they called up and said all the customers were being switched to getting home phone services through the Internet. I asked if this was optional and they said, no, I had to switch. A technician came to my house and switched it over.

Well, it was horrible. Frequently I would pick up the phone to call and there would be no dial tone. Other times it would cut off in the middle of a call, and then when I tried to call the person back, there would be no dial tone so I couldn't call back (and they couldn't call me). Sometimes this happened more than once in one call. It was very frustrating and when I called Rogers they were completely unhelpful. (Said things like "if you can't get a dial tone, try using your cell phone instead.)

So - I decided to switch to Bell. Called up Bell, they sent over a technician and he switched it to Bell. But I found I was still getting bills from Rogers. I called Rogers and they said it was because I hadn't returned the modem. Modem? I didn't know there was any modem.

I got a description of the modem and I spent ages looking for it. Couldn't find it. Many calls back and forth. They said maybe the Bell technician took it. I called Bell and they said absolutely not, their technician wouldn't take it. So I called Rogers back and asked if they would please send out a technician to look for the stupid modem because I couldn't find it. They didn't want to, but they eventually sent a guy out and he looked in all the likely places, and couldn't find it either.

So - now I get a bill from Rogers for $200 for the modem.

I don't know what to do. I don't have their darn modem, Bell denies having it, and I can't afford the $200.

Any suggestions??

Do you live in a house, apartment, condo or townhouse?

The Rogers home phone modem will located where the near phone signal is distributed in your house. The moden needs power so it will be plugged in.
Do you recall when Rogers switched you over where the tech was working?

Depending on your dwelling it could be in the basement, garage, utility closet.

When Bell came to switch you over to them do you remeber where the isntaller was working? Chances are your modem is near where she/he was working.
Did they actually talk to the installer or did Bell just tell you he didn't take it. People can make errors.

Odd that the Rogers tech couldn't find it.

Sorry to hear about all of your trouble. Our home phone has been great since switching last June.

Here's what our home phone modem looks like.

Sorry, I can't help you but just wanted to say thanks for the heads up since Rogers is trying hard to get me to switch to them for phone services.

I am suggesting that you call Rogers - ask to speak to a higher up - and tell them that there is no way you are paying for something that you don't have. Good Luck!

BTW I tried to switch to Primus a couple of years ago and ended up with no phone service for almost 3 weeks! Bell blaming Primus, Primus blaming Bell. Had to go back to Bell.

We searched all those places, and there is definitely no modem around.

Bell would not let me talk to the technician. They just said it was not taken, that they have a definite rule not to take it and the technician would not have taken it.

The Rogers technician looked everywhere too and couldn't find it.

I guess all I can do is call and explain it again. I have spent hours talking to these people!

You should ask Rogers if they can ping the modem. If the can, it means it's plugged in somewhere and working. In that case, they should be able to trace where on the network it is, either at your house or somewhere other than your house (they will see on a map where it is). If they can't, it's either unplugged or sitting in a box somewhere, and that could be anywhere, your place or someone else's.
