OT - Report: Verizon getting iPhone in January !!!

yeah.. they're backing off the story now... so... we're back to waiting...

Well, let me preface this by saying I do work in the wireless industry but not for AT&T or Verizon but I can say that Verizon will eventually get the iPhone. Now, the bigger question isn't when it's going to happen but how many customers AT&T is going to lose when it actually does happen.

Seems kind of unlikely to me, one of the tech podcasts I listen to suggested that maybe this was leaked by someone at Verizon in hopes of slowing down the defections to AT&T. I would bet we won't see iphone on Verizon until everyone switches over to LTE so Apple wont have to spend so much money developing two seperate phones.

They've been saying this for many months. It never happens. I just got a new phone last Sun and added a line for my dd. (Verizon) The store was very busy.

It will be tough to get current AT&T iPhone customers to switch unless Verizon will cover the AT&T contract termination fee. Even if I wanted to switch I would not be willing to pay the termination fee and another $299 for a new Verizon iPhone. Basically it would cost me the termination fee + $300 to switch over while still under contract.

My mom is a Verizon customer and these stories keep her from switching to AT&T. She would love an iPhone, but is not really interested in switching providers at this time. Each and everytime a new iPhone comes out there is a Verizon rumor that shows up. I think there is some truth to the statement that Verizon is trying to buy time to prevent defectors while they are waiting for the magical date when AT&Ts deal expires.

I for one cannot wait till the iPhone is avaliable on more networks. Smartphones are a different bread than a traditional cell phone. They are truly mini computers so it would be like saying you cannot use a new mac book pro on Cable's road runner high speed internet as it is only allowed to use Verizon FiOS.

Let the mass exodus from AT&T begin! Man the lifeboats, woman and children first!

Oh- I soooooooooooooooooooooo hope this happens!! AT&T doesn't have the best service in our area- actually, it seems to have the worst, which is why we switched from it to Verizon. I would loooooove an iPhone!! :yay:

DS is due for a new phone next month and I'm due in August. DS's phone is starting to fall apart. I really wish they would let us know one way or the other so we can decide if we want to switch to AT&T, get droids now or wait until January and get Iphones.

Dh has the Droid Incredible and loves it! I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the iPhone to come to Verizon, this rumor keeps circulating and hasn't come true yet.

Second for the droid selection! If someone handed me a verizon iPhone right now I don't think I would take it. I love my incredible, one of the biggest reasons is the great camera.

Why? Service for us is great. Never had a problem. Not all parts of the country get a bad signal, and - gasp - some Verizon customers have bad service. All companies have bad service. AT&T gets a worse rap because of the iPhone, but I think the problem is the iPhone much more so than it is AT&T.

Verizon would have to offer a cheaper plan... but then AT&T would immediately match it.

I hope Verizon does get the iPhone, and the sooner the better - competition is good for everyone. We have no plans to switch, but it would only make our service and price with AT&T better if another major carrier had the iPhone as well.

Eventually it will happen, it will most likely not be in January. A good article about the Verizon iPhone is here.

:sad2::sad1::sad2::sad1:

I see a Droid in my not so distant future.

Pete, can we please have E-Ticket for Droid in the very near future?

Yeah....every couple months we see one of these threads that this is imminent.

It seems that the cycle is August and January.....kinda like Disney price raising.

Also...not all of us would leave AT&T. I have great service and a great new phone. Pretty happy where I'm at right now.

The exception here would be price.

I agree with Kevin, I love my new phone, and I really haven't had all the issues with AT&T that I have heard about online. Unless the verizon plan is alot cheaper I will stay where I am.

The only way I would ever buy an iPhone is if Verizon got it. I had ATT and stuck it out for the year ONLY because it would cost too much to get out of the contract. My Verizon service has been excellent from Day 1.

The only reason I think that Verizon might get the iPhone someday is that there are a LOT of people on that network who have successfully resisted the pull of the iPhone to run off to ATT. Once the exclusive contract ends with ATT, why wouldn't Apple want to go after those consumers too?

Well I can only hope that Verizon gets the IPhone. THAT would be nice!

I'll believe it when I see it (or FAA radar confirmation of flying pigs). Like Kevin said, this rumor pops up every couple months. I wouldn't be surprised if Verizon does eventually get the iPhone, but I don't see it happening in Jan or possibly all of 2011.
