OT: Questions on camcorders

Can you recommend a good camcorder?
What the heck is a flash memory?
What is the difference between a flash memory and SD memory?
Should I go with a Mini DV or a DVD one? Or a Hard Drive one?

We are in the market for a new one since our old one is getting ready to expire and its so obsolete that we can no longer get accessories for it including chargers, batteries, and the tapes(VHS-C). I hope someone can help me. I am technology impaired and have tried the comparison guides at Best Buy and Wal*Mart but am so confused! THANKS A BUNCH!

I wish I could answer your questions. I would go to cnet.com and I bet a lot of your questions would be answered. In addition to that, I googled "camcorder basics" and came up with lots of information. There is also a photography forum here on the dis where you might get better responses to your questions. best of luck!

i have a mini-dv one and i soooooo wish i would have bought something that can go directly into a dvd player.

I also forgot you only want to worry about optical zoom and not digital. The digital zoom is nice but honestly you can do that on the computer with editing software, and if you use it during recording it magnifies every ounce of shaking and unstability.
