So my 7yr old son has seen the ad on tv in reference to the Neopets website where I guess you can makeup a Neopets and do games etc..So anyway I was wondering if anyone out there goes on this website and what they think of it, do your children have fun with this? Have you had any problems? this website is free right? At least thats what the ad and website say, any hidden charges?

Thanks

Neopets has been around FOREVER! I'm 27 now, and remember playing on it when I was tween/young teenager. I experienced a brief resurgence during grad school (yes, actual grad school at an actual university where I was given an actual M.A. :rotfl:) a few years ago, when us bored grad students would sit in the grad student office with our laptops and yell things like, "my Blumaroo is crushing your Kacheek!" :confused3 :lmao:

The site is pretty safe (following all normal precautions, of course) and people mainly just interact together through their pets. There is no money involved (although quite a bit of advertising) and the games are actually quite a bit of fun (as shown through the fact that a bunch of 20/30-something grad students were enamoured with it for several months). I would definitely let a kid play on the site, after going through the normal warnings about safe internet use.

DD played neopets forEVER, like from 3rd-10th grade or something like that. Sarah Rose is correct; no real money involved at all, security seems good and your kid is safe, it's a simple imaginary world that, for some unknown reason, kids adore. As with all internet, go through the precautions with your kid, but Neopets is a reasonable thing for a kid to be involved with.

My son played on there for a few years. It doesn't cost to join but just know that there are items to purchase, like special outfits and items. If I recall correctly you have to buy a Neopets card at Target or somewhere like that. I think kids enjoy it.

I used to go on there a lot and I'm 35. It's fun. I enjoyed dressing up my Neopet and playing games to get stuff. Never found anything bad about it. It's just a nice way to pass the time. Best of all is that it's free except for some special Pet Shop items. Yes, you can get the cards at Target if you want to purchase Neo Cash to get stuff from the Shop. My husband bought me a card once for Christmas so I could get some special stuff for my pet.
