I was just at our local Zehrs and had a shock at check-out when the 4L bag of 1% Milk was $5.07!! I must have missed something because I had seen signs recently that they too were lowering their milk, bread, butter, eggs prices to compete with Walmart's. I went back into Zehrs after I'd put my groceries in the car and checked out the other prices and they were all back up.

I haven't been in Walmart in the last few days to see if they still have those discounted prices.

I know our Shopper's Drug Store has had Milk for $3.99 for ages now, which is next door to Zehrs.

Now that both boys are away at school Dh and I don't go through Milk as quickly but still.......

What is the price in your neighbourhoods?

My Dh does the milk shopping in our house, as a matter of fact he does it for my mother, my mother in law, and our elderly neighbours, and he swears by Shoppers Drug Mart.
Actually, I went with him one day, and they have limits on the 3.99 price, when we explained that it was for house bound seniors they didn't care.
We ended up going to 3 local Shoppers to get the 12 bags that we needed to deliver.

We buy our milk at Costco it is only 3.78 for 1% and 4.59 for Homoganized.

I routinely visit Food Basics, Shoppers Drug Mart and Price Chopper and they all have milk for $3.97 or $3.99.

I buy my milk at Shoppers and it is $3.99..I see that no Frills has their Chocolate milk on for $3.99 from now until the end of the year. It is a nice treat to have the Chocolate milk. It will make my kids happy!

That's interesting to discover so many of you buy Milk at Shopper's. Well, I'm going to be regular Shopper's milk shopper from now on. I would only buy it if I was in the drug store for something else. I knew I was being lazy when I was paying $4.69 at Zehrs and I knew Milk was $3.99 next door. But no more!! Or I'll also check at Walmart, next time I'm there.

We also get ours at SDM. Otherwise, we get it at Mac's milk (you pay dept. on the bottle)

I get mine from shoppers, Food basics or Costco and only pay about $4 per bag - we go through too much to be paying $5 per bag!!
I find I save alot of $$ too if I do my groceries at Basics rather then Zehrs!

I'm pretty sure the very absolute lowest price for milk in Nova Scotia is $5.19/4L at Costco Because I leave near the Costco, I know the Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, Sobeys and Superstore nearest Costco charge slightly more, in the range of about $5.39-5.79, then a few stores a little further out charge about $6.19

If I buy it anwhere else in the city (or I guess the province) it's over $7

M.

(It went up again about two weeks ago, so I might be a little off)

Most places here are 3.99. We also go through about 4 4L bags/week.

Our Mac's went from $4.29 a jug to $4.69 . I like the jug but went back to bags now.

Now I buy it at No Frills, Walmart or Superstore they are all about $4.00.

Not exactly a fair comparison, but we buy most of our milk at a grocery store about 15 minutes from us, just across the US border. $2.89USD/gal (3.8L). Sometimes lower when it's on sale.

We have 2 preschoolers and are BIG milk drinkers so every dollar saved counts.

Zehr's carries Parmelat or Neilson milk usually (which costs more). I believe that Shopper's Drug Mart/Walmart carries Dairyland which is a less expensive milk usually. I believe that is why there is a price difference, along with the fact that milk prices have risen.

DH popped into No Frills last night to pick up milk. He didn't pay attention and bought the "Dairy OH!" milk....$6.37. :scared1: Holy cOw! I guess I'll relax in the knowledge that the girls are getting their Omega 3's, and I am drinking something to help with stress! :rotfl:

Hello DISboard members. We are dairy farmers in Ontario. If anybody has question about MILK we would be glad to help. We are a host farm for "GATES OPEN" (www.gatesopen.ca) Its farm tour in Durham Region to promote local agricultural products.

Hi MCFADDENS:wave2: I took a look at the "Gates Open" website and the tours look like a fun time! Reminds me a little of the farm tours around here my kid's kindergarten teacher used to take her classes on and I was a parent volunteer. That was many years ago. It would have be fun to do a tour but "Gates Open" is a bit too far away for us especially since we'll be leaving for Disney that Sunday! Thanks for posting that!

Debbie, I've almost made that mistake too! I hope your drink is milk based! ;) LOL

I just bought 1% at the Barn tonight and it was approx. 5.29 I believe. I couldn't believe the price. I think that next time I'll be checking out shopper's

the Barn I'm finding is getting super Expensive, but that seems to be the only place that DH will shop as he used to work there years ago. I think he thinks we're made of money. lol... So we're going to look into a Costco membership.
