Hi there,

I have finally convinced DH to get a new Christmas Tree:santa:  :santa:  !!

But, I am having trouble with choice between Pre-lit or Standard. Can you please tell me your honest opinions?

Thanks Dis Friends :thumbsup2

Pre-lit!

I bought a pre-lit tree and it took a couple hours off my decorating time. No more untangling the lights, stringing them on the tree, and then unstringing them to put the tree away.

My vote would be for a standard, unlit tree- bought my mom a prelit one a couple of years ago, and the stupid tree weighs a ton and it's very difficult to put together, it is in 3 pieces but because of the lights, it is still connected by the wires. I also wonder what is going to happen when the lights start going out, is 1/2 the tree going to light!

pre-lits do save time and sanity but we bought a pre-lit three years ago and this year I have to rip off all the lights and restring new ones because a whole section went out last year and we tried everything to get them back on and nothing worked. If you do get a pre-lit see if you can get it with LED lights not only do they last long but also save on energy

I was wondering this too, I like the idea of prelit since I am the one who does the decorating of the tree.

I used to hate the pre-lit trees, then I bought one. Now I prefer it.

This is exactly what I was afraid of!!

2 years ago, I tried leaving my lights on and wrapping up my tree, but it was a MESS when we unpacked it.

I do not know what to do!!

I love all this feedback though!!

I love the pre-lit trees. Although we're on our 2nd one in 7 years. The first one's lights died and couldn't be fixed. Look for one after the season to get a good deal.

I like our un-lit tree. All of the branches come off before storage and the storage bag takes up less room in the garage. It does take a little longer to put together and put on the lights, but I only do it once a year so it's not a big deal. I make sure the branches are bundled and labeled to make it easier for next year. I also like being able to control how many lights I use and how I put them on. Plus, I would be worried about what happens when the lights start burning out.

We have a prelit- I like it just fine, so far all the lights work and it is easy to put together. But think about whether you want to be stuck with all white lights or colored lights, etc. It may be worth the trouble to just replace lights and not the whole tree.

I saw a link for a pre-lit tree on www.gottadeal.com at the top of the page in the gray box. I think it was about $65 with shipping. It looks nice in the picture and thought it was a good price to try one out.

I have 3 pre-lit trees and I love them!! :thumbsup2

I have one of each and I think I prefer the unlit. The prelit takes up a TON of room and it is very heavy. It also takes a lot of time to space out the branches. We bought one that has the most lights we could find for that size and I always want to add more lights because I don't think it has enough. That kind of defeats the whole purpose though :confused3

My unlit takes awhile to put up, but I can easily space out each individual branch so the tree looks a lot fuller. It really doesn't take me long at all to put the lights on, so that doesn't really bother me. Plus I can put on as many lights as I want! The tree also is easier to pack away and takes up less room in the basement.

I now have one of each! 1 pre-lit and 1 non-lit.
I'm a clear light kind of girl but I missed the charlie brown looking big lights so I bought the non-lit one too. They are on 2 different floors of my house.

I love my pre-lit tree. The thing is...you have to spend a good amount of money on the tree. The cheaper ones have fewer lights and fewer branches. The type of tree (spruce, etc) also plays a part on how thick it looks. You really have to see them in person before purchasing it. I went to a lot of places before deciding on one and I am happy with it.

Good Luck

Well I bought a pre-lit, but I could not see it set up. It is returnable, so I am going to check it out this weekend and let you know.

I hope it is OK!!

Thank you for all the advice!!

Amy

My vote is for the pre-lit one. I got a nice one on sale for a very good price a couple of years ago on Black Friday. It comes in three pieces plus the stand and all you do it connect them together. I figure it is worth in price because because I always seemed to be buying new lights anyway for the tree and it is much less hastle than untangling lights.

I have never had a pre-lit tree until this year.
I was at Wal-mart last year after christmas and completeley scored.
It was marked down to.......$8.00.:scared1: :cool1:   :woohoo: :dance3: :cheer2:

I figured for that price if it doesn't work (wich I know it does because I plugged it in when I got home) I wasn't out much.

By the way this is my very first post. :flower3:
