Hi all. Since we have so many wise parents on this board, I've come to you for help. DS7 wants Pokemon cards for Christmas. I have no clue what to buy. I went to Target & Toys R Us, but I got very overwhelmed and didn't buy anything.

Any advice? Thanks! :)

You want a deck (I think it's called a starter pack), this is usually a box of cards with either 40 or 60 in it. The most up to date ones are Diamoned and Pearl (few different varieties) or EX Power Keepers. The small packs with 9 or 11 cards in, are booster packs which the kids use to top up their decks, and for swapping / playing. Most of all, I'd say that they're usually delighted with whatever they get, Pokemon is pokemon, and that's from the mum of an Asperger's kid, who is very particular about pokemon! ;) HTH

Found this link which might help explain the game to you http://www.sierrascollectibles.com/pokemon_build_deck.htm

Also, you might get a better deal from amazon with free postage and so on, I'm in the UK, but if buying a lot of them it works out better value than going into the stores.

That first link is possibly a good set to get him going, for an all singing, dancing set. It depends on your budget, and how much of his gift it will be, if it's just a wee extra, I'd just get a single box like one of these

My son is helping us out here, he says the last one on the second row is a good one! Think that was a hint (if he knew how!:rotfl: ).

I appreciate the help as well. DDs (9 and 6) are into Pokemon... :upsidedow

Not sure how that happened, but I am out of the loop ... DSs used to be big into pokemon...but that has been a few years.

The girls were thrilled when just last week DS17 (we just finished his new room) was going through his closet and found his HUGE collection of Original Pokemon cards... he walks out and tells his sisters to close their eyes.... he sets a box of pokemon stuff in front of each of them. They screeched and embarassed him by kissing/hugging him. ;)

They are asking for Pokemon cards for Christmas and was also not sure of what to buy.

My 10 year old Pokemon expert says there are "starter packs" and "booster packs." You get the starter pack first. Then after seeing what's in there, they'll probably want booster packs which the kids will start asking for by name. It's OK to have several of the same type of card. You can use the extras to trade with your friends. That's the fun of it. My son is always taking cards to school to trade at recess.

And if you just want to bug your DS for fun, call it Pokeman in singular and Pokemen in plural. It drives them crazy!!!

HAAAAAAAAAAA! That is hysterical.

All advice above is correct...the brand new just released Theme decks are Pokemon Diamond and Pearl STORMFRONT. There are usually two or three "Starter Decks" and then the corresponding booster packs...I've been a "Pokemom" for close to five years now.

Have fun!
