Hello All,

MOST of you seem to be from Ontario, and at least SOME of you are probably familiar with the GTA. Please name some hotels that are within a reasonable distance of Canada's Wonderland - ideally suitable to pop back to in the early afternoon for "nap time". Don't worry too much about * ratings, amenities, price, etc. I'll follow all that up on my own.

Also, is there any such thing as discounts or coupons available for Wonderland and/or Marineland? Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

(can't find my favorite waving smiley...)

Annette

We have stayed at the Best Western, Richmond Hill a couple of times. It has a Sheraton right next door I believe. Located at Steeles and 7 if memory serves. When we booked they had a special for 2 Wonderland passes included in the cost of the room.

Hope that helps.

John

The Holiday Inn Express in Vaughan just opened last June (when we stayed there for a night). Not too far from Wonderland or vaughan Mills shopping centre(disney outlet:goodvibes). Has an indoor pool and a great free breakfast:thumbsup2

There are 2 newer hotels just minutes from Wonderland, in the midst of shopping, movie theatres and restaurants. A Hilton Garden Inn, and Courtyard by Mariott.

These are likely the 2 closest hotels to Wonderland, an easy 5 minutes from the front gates.

I agree with these....also, not sure which one but one of them has a big waterslide in their pool. There is a Dave and Busters right there also which is a great place to eat for the kids. I think Shoppers, Macs and CAA sell discounted tickets...someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

ontariotravel dot net (I cant' post links yet, I am too new!!)

This website has many brochures that you can order for free. The Attractions Ontario booklet is full of discount coupons for various Ontario attractions.

We've stayed at the Courtyard Marriott and the Hilton Garden Inn Vaughan. Both are close by (Hwy 7 and the 400) and are nice.

The Hilton Garden Inn has a waterslide but I found it too fast.

I've stayed at the Hilton quite a few times and loved it. It is the one with the water slide. might be too quick for some, but my kids loved it. It is also very close to IKEA, which is always a plus for me cause there is not one near where I live.

Thanks for the replies; I appreciate them. All our holidays for the past umpteen years have been Disney or cruises; I can't believe the trouble I'm having planning this trip! (Fly YYC to YYZ June 30 and overnight, drive to Ottawa for Canada Day on Parliment Hill and two nights with family, back to the GTA for two nights then down to Niagara Falls for Marine Land for two nights before driving back to YYZ for the flight home on July 7).

I've found some surprisingly good rates this summer at the Delta chain - anybody have any advice on a preference between the Delta Chelsea or the Delta Medowvale?

One more question - If anybody is familiar with the traffic conditions/driving distances in Calgary, how would you compare the daytime traffic in the GTA?

Thanks again,

:flower3: Annette

I haven't stayed at either for several years, but I think that the Delta Meadowvale is the nicer hotel of the two, but it is more out of the way. The Delta Chelsea is downtown T.O.. Meadowvale is about a half hour drive away, assuming no traffic - longer if there is traffic. Neither is particularly close to Wonderland.

I would seriously think about what you plan to do while in the GTA, and try to stay close to the attractions you are wanting to visit. The GTA is huge, traffic is a pain, and there's nothing worse than spending a vacation driving or stuck in traffic.

Well...we'll probably arrive in Toronto around noon on the first day of our 2 day stay. Since I imagine that Wonderland will take all day on day 2, the loose "plan" is to spend the first afternoon and evening absorbing the general atmosphere. No specific destinations exactly; maybe the CN tower, maybe Ontario Place...might these be more accessible from downtown? A major challenge is that we'll be sharing this trip with DH's DD, DSIL and 2 DGK (ages 1 & 5), which will probably necessitate that we travel at their pace. Didn't I say I was having a miserable time planning this...

:upsidedow Annette

P.S. DH actually likes driving around new cities; it's a positive part of the experience for him.
