Hi all,

Sorry for the off topic post, but I thought this might be a good place to go for some suggestions. I am planning a charity event in which my group will be building bikes for kids in need. The kids will be coming to the event to receive the bikes (which will be a surprise when they get there).

In addition to the bikes, I'd like to put together small gift bags for each of the kids, who will be from 7-9 years old, both boys and girls. Any specific toy or book ideas that would have broad appeal for this age group? Anything that could tie in to the bikes would be great, but is not required (we are already providing bike helmets and locks). My friends and I have toddlers, so I'm not sure what to get for older kids! Thanks in advance for any help!

Lego, Lego and more Lego! Universal appeal. Our house is flooded with it. Random blocks are good since it encourages creativity and using your imagination. Although my DS loves sets too. DS birthday party is next weekend and I decided that rather than giving all that "junk" for Oriental Trading, they were each getting a Lego set to take home.

Was going to say Legos too. There are sets for boys and girls. I also like the idea of books, decent art supplies and water bottles.

I agree with Legos. Also, mini flashlights are a huge hit with kids and target sells a brand that are "lifesaver" ones that float in water and can turn colors. Also card games, Rory story cubes, luggage tags, and art supplies.
