Is anyone out there from Sault Ste. Marie? We're going there this summer and have booked a cottage that doesn't allow dogs. If we could get a recommendation for a good kennel up there we would take the dogs rather than leaving them in a kennel at home. We figure we could pick them up during the day and just have them stay in the kennel overnight. (We staying at a campground that does allow dogs, just not in the cottages). We aren't really going to site-see, moving DD to the college residence, and will probably visit some parks or hang out at the campground so we could have the dogs with us.

HI there, I am familiar with the Sault area, as I have tons of family there, and lived there for about 5 years. I am only 3 hours from there. I just can't think of any kennels off the top of my head. But, I do have a sister that is very involved in Pet Save there, and I am sure she can help me. I will try to get a hold of her tomorrow, she is at a charity auction tonight for spaying and neuturing your pets. So if you can hold tight, I am sure she will know the best answer for you!

I am from up there orginally too. Still have lots of family up there. My uncle boards his dog when he goes away. I can find out where he takes Jake and let you know. Is your daughter going to Algoma U? Or Sault College?

Thanks Mickey65, I did find the names of two kennels in the yellowpages that sounded pretty good, one of which was Spruce Haven and the other Pet Pleasure Resort, but would never take them to any kennel without a recommendation or hearing good things about it. I'll check out the website -thanks. My daughter will be going to Sault College taking Fish and Wildlife Conservation.

Greenclan67, I would appreciate knowing what your sister thinks. Thanks.

Hi Jtdl, I just got off the phone with her, and she also said Spruce Haven is the one to go. It is well run and legit. She also recommended to call early to get availibility, because they do fill up fast. They are also a very clean facility. If that doesn't work let me know, and I will ask her for other places, but that is the one she would recommend first and foremost.

Thanks Greenclan I appreciate you calling your sister! I checked out the website that Mickey65 posted and it looks like a very good place - lots of info on the site - thanks Mickey65. It is a little farther away from where we are staying but with two good recommendations I think that's where we will book the dogs. We aren't going until Labour Day weekend - I like to have all my plans in order long in advance for all our trips - long or short - you should see how far in advance I start planning Disney trips :upsidedow !!!!

Thanks so much you guys - I appreciate your help very much :flower3:

No problem, and that is the only thing my sister did say, that depending where you were camping, that Spruce Haven may be out of the way. I hope it isn't to bad. The Sault isn't that big,so you should be ok. I love the Sault, we go often for visits. I am actually looking after my 4 year old great niece that is from the Sault for a week starting today, and I think it might be a long week. May have to take a trip back up there to return her Friday!!( or earlier, LOL)

Mapquest says it is 20 minutes from the campground we're staying at (Glenview). The other kennel I had found in yellowpages - Pet Pleasure Resort - is only 5 minutes - but I'd rather they be in a place I know has a good reputation. Can't find anything on Pet Pleasure - not even a web page.

Good luck with the great niece - lol - not sure what your weather is like but here in southwestern Ontario we at 81° today - good weather to tire her out outside!!!!

I have boarded my beloved Pug at both Spruce Haven and Pet Pleasures.

Pugsly did not like Spruce Haven at all. I found it very dirty. He smelled when I picked him up again. Spruce Haven is so far out of the way - it seems like you driver forever and ever.

The next time I had to board Pugsly I used Pet Pleasures and I preferred that one. I was a repeat customer. It was cleaner and I felt the people there were much friendlier.

Good luck...I find it very stressful for me to board my little guy!

Yes it is very stressful - I would much rather leave them at home but the one is 2 years old and still chews everything if they aren't locked in the kitchen. If I could let them have the run of the house and someone come over several times a day to let them out, I'd would but I would feel worse for them to be locked in the kitchen for 4 days. If at a kennel they would only be there overnight and with us during the day. I've got recommendations for both Spruce Haven, Pet Pleasure and an in-home dog sitting business in the Soo. Pet Pleasure is very close to where we will be staying so right now that's where I'm thinking I may go.
