Does anyone know where I can get Paste food colouring from? Either in a store in the Hamilton/Burlington/Toronto area or a Canadian online source. Thanks

That's a really strange thing to be looking for. Are you making Peppermint Twist Cookies from a Christmas Cookie Magazine?

I'm going to try it tonight and I plan on using the coloring that I use for cake decorating. It's made by Wilton and it colors the icing. You can get it at any Michaels or Bulk Barn.

Wilton also makes the concentrated paste food colouring - it comes in a container that looks like a prescription pill bottle - and Bulk Barn carries it as well. Any store that sells cake decorating supplies will carry it.

I've bought it at Michaels. It gives a much deeper colour than the liquid food colouring and you use such a little bit. It seems expensive, but because you use so little it lasts a long time. Happy baking.

You can buy it at Michael's & Bulk Barn.

A tip though, when you scoop out the colour paste use a toothpick. The colour is so concentrated that a toothpick full will colour a fair-sized bowl of icing!

Paste colouring doesn't dilute the icing like liquid food colouring does, and the colours tend to be more vibrant. Black is nearly impossible to achieve and red is difficult too!

Good Luck!

A tip if you are making black - start with chocolate icing. You don't need as much food colouring that way and it doesn't taste bitter.

Also be careful because the stuff really stains! If y ou get a bit on your fingers you'll need some serious scrubbing to get it off.

Thanks everyone. I thought Michael's would have it, but I have only ever used the liquid food colouring. I am making the candy cane kisses that are in the Canadian Living magazine this month, they are a meringue thingy that is stripped like a cahdy cane. You need to brush the inside of a pastry bag with the colouring, so you wouldn't have as much control over a liquid food colouring I guess. Again, thanks for all your help.

Put Crisco on your hands it will take it right off.. and make your hands soft in the process. I have had my fair share of red fingers until I used Crisco.. works like a charm!
