OT: Painful urination in my son...

My little boy is 5 years old and says his "peepee hurts" when he pees. I'm taking him to the doctor's this afternoon, but does anyone with little boys know what this could be? I feel so horrible for him and don't want him to be in pain!

I'm thinking it's probably a Urinary Tract Infection. Antibiotics will clear it up.

I can't think of anything but a UTI...hope he gets better soon. I know how much that hurts me...I can only imagine a little boy (or girl)!

Same here...uti...even with the antibiotics, watch his urine for blood, and watch his temp. If he starts looking bad, take him back. I let a UTI go, gave her the meds, thinking it would get better, with my 4 year old, and she developed a kidney infection and was down for the count for a while with that.

Poo little guy.... Have you tried getting him to drink cranberry juice, even if you need to water it down a bit.... it will help speed up the recovery time.

If it is not a UTI, it could just be some soap got in his privates while washing, being dehydrated, or too much acidic-type drinks like lemonade. Just another point of view, hope your son feels better. I know our doctor has mentionned UTIs are rare in boys.

check for any redness and pus, my son is not circumsized and gets 'balanitis' once in a while which is treated with some antibiotic ointment.

have the doctor check his urine for infection.

uti in boys is less common than girls because boy's urinary tract is much longer. girls get uti's commonly due to wiping from 'back to front'.

i used to work for a pediatric radiologist who recommended ultrasound and VCUG if a little boy got more than one UTI.
