OT-Olympic Torch

A torch was just brought to Afghanistan for the troops to see and hold :) I got some great pictures of our friends currently serving overseas with a torch emailed to me yesterday. The Canadian servicemen also go a pair of those nifty red gloves each :) It was just a little Christmas cheer with sadly came within a few hours of a Ramp Ceremony on Christmas eve.

Tomorrow the torch is coming through my town of Hanover. I am real excited to see it. Nothing cool ever happens in this little town.

DS Tim, his gf and I bundled up and went to downtown Woodstock this morning (Sunday) to watch the Olympic Torch go through. It was really cool to see. Tim Horton's was serving free hot chocolate and Tim Bits.

I bundled up and went and saw it in Guelph this morning, it was cold but I was glad I went.

We invited friends over this morning, hosting a breakfast party after the torch went by our house. A fun, memorable, and great morning to enjoy a little piece of history.

The torch relay began in Guelph at 7:30 this morning and all was to be done by 8:30.

The torch comes to North Bay tonight! I'm soo excited -- I can't sleep. My DD9 is one of a few select kids selected to participate in an elite choir at the festivities. They have the kids wearing oversized T-shirts, hats, and mitts in coordinating colours and will be standing in the formation of the Olympic Rings. (She forms part of the yellow ring!)
My DS13 applied to be a torch bearer, but was unsuccessful. He is being very supportive of his sister....could be because we told them Christmas morning about our upcomming WDW trip (Feb 6-13th)

I'll try to post pics tomorrow of the torch in North Bay!

What a great thread.

Torch passed thru our sleepy little town of Powassan yesterday afternoon. We had a great day planned for it. We started with my DS novice rep hockey team playing against the local volunteer fire department went outside and the kids ran with the torch runners down main street to the rest spot just out front of the arena where a crowd of a couple of hundred broke out in singing O'Canada. I felt so much pride in our awesome country and small town that it brought me to tears. Shortly after that the torch continued on to North Bay and we ended the day in Powassan with a fire work display. My son got to hold the torch and have his picture taken a momment I hope he never forgets.

At my mom's school a kid with special needs was choosen to "run" with the torch. As a surprise all the teachers pitched in to buy him his torch! My mom said that he still hasn't stopped smiling!!!!!!
