Totally OT but I just saw the Olympic torch run through my neighbourhood. Very proud and very cool! We even got Olympic bottles of Coke.

I am taking the kids tomorrow to watch it run through our town. Then we are going to warm up with breakfast out before school starts.

The torch will be making its way through town at 6:40 am!!! :scared1:

I hope the kids remember it for years to come!

I still remember the torch coming thru my small town in 1988 when i was a kid!!! I think it is incredible that out of 4000 people that live in my town, 3 are carrying the torch....one already did in PEI and then a 14 year old girl gets to carry it and a grade 1 teacher her does...i guess the odds of that happening are astronomical, but all 3 had their names drawn so there is alot of hype in our town about the torch.....

A friend of ours is a Torch bearer today, he is travelling down Yonge St., ending just north of St. Clair.

I would have loved to have been a torch bearer. I didn't even know how people were chosen.

Here on Tuesday at about 11:30 am. Taking the kids down and making an event of it. We've got our Olympic mitts all ready to go!

I would have loved to have been a torch bearer. I didn't even know how people were chosen.

My friend entered a contest through coke.
He had to write an essay, I believe about his involvement in the community.
It was than judged, and he got chosen.
They get an official tracksuit to wear while they run, and they have the option of buying the torch for $350.00.

We are going down to watch the torch being past on in Gage Park in Brampton......very cool and very important for the kids to see

$350.00...really:scared1::scared1: wow!!!

I decided to donate my torch to the local elementary school. Having it mounted and then they get it after their "school Olympics"

Here is me in Grand Pre Nova Scotia

My DD ran on Sunday in Renfrew Ontario on a snowy afternoon. It was beautiful. She also was chosen by Coca Cola. For a non athletic kid it was a big surprise. She does a lot of volunteer work with kids using her music skills. She also won the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario Volunteer award for her high school last year. She volunteers a lot. I told her about donating her torch and she said you would have to pry it out of her cold dead hands. She is so proud of it.
I am trying to figure out how to add her picture but it won't paste? Help

Linda

Thinking of taking my kids to either the Torch Celebration in Hamilton on Saturday or getting them up EARLY for Sunday morning....

The torch will stay over night in our community so we are having a big celebration. my DD is dancing there and then singing during the torch celebration. I'm volunteering-looking forward to it

Great pic, Ted! DD is practising with her choir right now for Christmas Eve.

Saw it this morning. Such a great feeling. So exciting.

Ted: Where's the crowd?? What an awesome thing for you to do.

There was a crowd and speeches etc, but Grand Pre isnt that big .... (understatement) ... :)

I was one of the few runners who after my flame was lit (photo below), I was brought to a photo shoot and then did my run.

An interesting point: many of the names in POR come from this area. "Acadian" for example. This location was selected because of the historical significance of the expulsion of the Acadian's to Louisiana.

Was an awesome privilege ...
