I'm collecting memories about the old Wintario show that used to be on TV in Ontario between 1975 and 1990. It had a really catchy theme song.

What do you remember about Wintario?

[Here's a Youtube clip of the show visiting Marineland: http://youtu.be/W8ppjOkbmoc.]

I used to love the "Our Town" segments. I learned a lot about wherever the show was hosted that week. That said, I never understood lotteries...to me, they've been for folks who believe they don't pay quite enough in taxes.

Wasn't the slogan for that "You can't win if you don't play"?

I seem to remember a woman coming into the store talking to the old guy working there. Am I remembering the right thing?

I remember it from when I was growing up. It was a big deal when they came to my home town (1500 people) to film the drawing of the numbers.
Another memory I have is that we were relatively new Canadians (had been here 6 years) and my parents won $1,000. It helped buy a car and a piano for me so I could learn to play (I am now a high school music teacher). I think of Wintario as more of a fundraiser than a gambling activity because they obviously gave so much back to charitable organizations.
