OT- Non-Disney Double Stoller Advice

DSister is having her second baby in a couple months. I'd like to buy her a double stroller. She'd like one, but has no idea on type, etc. Her other child will just turn 3 when new baby arrives, and generally does not use a stroller. However, DSister knows that with new baby, there will be times she just needs a stroller to keep track of her older kid. She will likely travel some with the kids, perhaps on her own (as all family is back in the midwest, and she's out in CA).

Any recommendations of what may work well, be useful enough, but not overkill?

DSister's only stroller experience has been with a Graco travel system so far, and a Kolcraft umbrella stroller I gave her for Disney.

Price wise, I'd like to stay under $400, if possible, but want to make sure it's something that can actually be used for a while.

As a mom of twins I went through lots of double strollers, so I can tell you it is a challange to find the right combination and what works with infants doesn't do as well a few months later. The yahoo group StrollerSWAP is a terrific resource on strollers, and the Baby Bargin's book forum is as well.

For children 3 years apart in age, I'd actually get a good single stroller with a toddler step - Peg Perego makes some. Toddler can stand on a step between the handles.

I bought a Maclaren twin techno when I had my second son. My older son was 2 when he was born. I love my stroller so much. Both seats recline ALL the way which is a must for a newborn (and any child really) It is very sturdy with just the baby in it and can accomodate 45 lbs on each side (don't quote me on that, I am pretty sure though) My son is now 3 and I still use it all the time. When he starts to get tired he needs a place to sit and sometimes he will nap in it. That's why I am against the sit n stands (the front doesn't recline enough for an infant or any child to lay down, and if your second child wants to nap or lean back, he is unable) Sit n stands serve a purpose, just not for my kids. And I saw a stroller with the step to attach, but it is $100 ish and I think that is outraugeous, and it will only be good for some things, not trips to the mall or Disney. My stroller comes with a rain guard thing and foot muffs that attach which is a great feature. It was about $300. You can by last years models or discontinued colors to save money.

Phil and Ted's with the double kit, would be perfect but it will probably be more than your price range. $500 +

If you can find a good used one on Craig's list or strollerSwap it would be much more affordable. How big is the 3 year old? Depending in where you place it the toddler seat has a 33lb or 55lb capacity.

The Baby Jogger City Mini Double is getting great reviews, and it does have an adapter bar available for snapping in a carseat.

I really like my sit n stand deluxe. My ds is 7 months and dd is 2.5. It is lighter than most, turns great. I like having a cupholder/parent tray and the front/back instead of tandem. I also like the price!

I have both the Maclaren Twin Techno and the Baby Jogger City Series. I LOVE the Baby Jogger and I really don't like the Maclaren.

The BJ is SOOOOOOOOOOOO easy to push, easy to fold and the kids love it. They always complained they weren't comfy in the MAC and it was very heavy to push.
