Help me out, Moms. Have you come across a leak-proof, straw-style sippy cup? I tried a few different styles with DS4, and was never pleased. DS2 needs to be using a straw-style instead of a spout cup to help strengthen the muscles around his mouth (speech delay), and I don't want to be eternally mopping up juice dribbles and washing slip covers.

Anyone?

I would have to agree. The brand name is different to the UK but these cups are definetely the best. I have tried loads and this type really don't leak. They are very easy to wash aswell.

I've had good luck with the cheap take and toss brand from Toys R Us. The straws fit nice and tight for a good few months of dishwasher use. After that I just toss them and get new ones. I'm of the opinion that kids shouldn't really be walking around with cups all the time, so for us they worked perfectly to sit and have a drink without worry.

WE found the Baby Einstein ones at Babies R Us to be great! The only ones that we have tried that didn't leak, fer shore! The seal is so tight that the straw actually makes a noise when DD breaks the suction when she stops sucking on the straw!

Just curious why kids shouldn't be walking around with cups. My 18 month old is always thirsty so she always has a sippy cup with water in it. I understand why you shouldn't let them sip juice or milk all day as it will sit on their teeth.

I too don't see why kids shouldn't have access to water if they want it. Am I missing something?

Nuby makes a spill proof straw cup you can get them at walmart or target.

This is what they look like the do have other sizes and styles on this website.

We use these as well. I have to say that they are not totally leak-proof though! I put mine in the dishwasher, and I think that has something to do with it, but after a while, they just don't screw together well, and start to leak, and you have to throw them out. Sometimes (usually with the yellow ones :confused3 ) they come out of the package not able to screw together, and are totally useless. I contacted the company about it - they returned my call about a week later and told me that I could send it to them and they will see..... yeah, I have the time for that!:lmao:
Anyway, they are OK, and don't leak to much, as long as you don't get the yellows!

My son will only use straw cups so we go between straw Take N Toss, and Gerber or Playtex (both make a pretty decent non leak straw cup)

Oh, and my son has his water cup available to him all day. I like to make sure he's hydrated and can drink whenever he wants. He never goes to bed with a cup, but I see nothing wrong with having it available during the day :)

We use the Rubbermaid clear plastic ones that look like a juice box. They have them at Wal-Mart, but they are in with the tupperware-stuff, not with the baby stuff.

Our Wal-Mart also carries a cheaper brand that they stock alongside the kids dishes and lunchboxes. Do not buy the cheap ones, they leak like crazy. Only the Rubbermaid.

Access to water or a drink is different than walking around all day with the cup. My son always had drinks available to him - I'd leave the cup in the kitchen on the table or on a low shelf in the 'fridge. Unfortunately I see a lot of people whose kids that have the juice cup permanently attached to their mouths, then they wonder why the kids won't eat.
At around age 2, my friend's son was walking with a sippy cup in his mouth, he fell, and the hard plastic piece in his mouth knocked out his tooth when he hit the ground. So depending on the age of the child, I stand by my opinion that they should not have a sippy cup (or one with a plastic straw) in their mouths as they walk around.

I think I have tried every brand there is but in my experience every one has leaked to a degree. I feel for you. I can't get my son to drink much from a straw...he wants a 'sippy' sippy cup. My friend's son has a speech delay and she just cut to the quick and took the sippy cups, straws and everything else away. He drinks like a champ in a big boy cup. He just turned 3. I think when they are on the go, she gives him a juice box at times. He will otherwise drink water from a water bottle like we adults do.

My guy can drink from a regular cup, too - it's his speech therapist that wants him drinking from a straw because it works certain muscles. And for some reason, a straw in a regular cup is just a toy to him, lol. I bought one of the Nuby ones that people seem to like, 3 days ago, and it leaks already despite being hand-washed, lol. Sigh.
