I need to go visit my Sister in Mass (outside Boston). I am not looking forward to the gas price and the possibility of finding a station on empty.

I usually take 684 to 84 to the Mass Pike. I will not be able to make it roundtrip without about an extra 1/4-1/2 tank. I can stop anywhere on the way up or fill up once I am there. If anyone can report prices along the way, I would appreciate it. There was a site I found at one point that listed prices everywhere but I can't find it any more.

TIA

I don't believe I have heard of any stations running out of gas in our area...at least not as of this morning! Prices have been changing daily though. You can find as low as 2.89 or some over $3. I haven't heard of any that are a lot higher than that, but the day is early. My son left yesterday morning for his drive south and said he had no problem getting gas just before he left MA.

AS of this morning, gas prices in my small town (Auburn) were 3.74 a gallon for regular - no gas shortages yet, but prices are STUPIDLY REDICOULOUSLY high!

It's people's panicing that causing stations to run out of gas. It's like a run on the banks. Pipelines in the Gulf Coast have started to come back on-line and the initial panic of people filling up every car and trying to get that last tank filled before the price spikes are ending. I doubt you'll find anything but an occassional station that's out of gas. High prices, however, you'll find everywhere.

I've been doing that exact drive for years to visit family in Boston... did it last week, in fact. I usually just refill my tank when I get there but I guess you could do it anywhere along the road. At the price of gas now, though, I sure wouldn't drive around looking to save pennies since you'd probably wind up spending more than you saved! :p

You can check www.gasbuddy.com for prices. I have, on occassion stopped in Sturbridge just before you get on the Mass Pike from 84... I noticed that "gasbuddy" shows a station there charging $2.91, so that might be worth a shot.
