Broward county is also the site of the first Senior Center for Lesbian and Gay seniors. The Nobel McArtor center was created in memory of a gay man who worked at the Area Agency on Aging. He was murdered, and the Executive Director of the agency created the center in his honor.

Broward is a pretty progressive county in some respects.
