OT: New York City

I understand your excitement about the curly hair specialist. There are a very limited number of people who can do my hair so every time I lose one for some reason it becomes an extensive search to replace her. Fortunately I can mostly handle my hair but there are times I really need help.

Anyway...I think your revised plan is pretty good. My only suggestion is really a warning. If you manage to make it out of the airport at 3:30 I think you'll do very well traffic wise in terms of getting as far as Edison (figuring about an hour...maybe a little less). There are a lot of companies in that area of NJ so by 4:30 you are going to hit NJ rush hour, after that you will be in Philadelphia rush hour. You might get lucky for Wilmington and beyond... I'm just saying don't count on getting to your hotel in Baltimore by 7pm.

Sounds like you've already made your reservations but I figure I'll point this out anyway. You could make your flight an open-jaw flight. I don't know about international flights but for US flights it still counts as round trip as long as you start and end in the same place. So figure half the cost of a r/t to DC or Baltimore plus half the cost from Boston or NYC. While this doesn't eliminate the rental car it would cut down on your driving making for a nicer trip.

We have tickets for Spamalot and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, neither of which would be appropriate for a child.

I just saw Spamalot last night...it is probably the funniest show I have ever seen. You are going to have a great time. My face still hurts from laughing.

And no, not appropriate for kids. :)

Hi there

i am not sure if edison NJ is near Giant Stadium / Seccaucus area. But we always drive in NJ Giant Stadium area. there is an Amerisuites and other hotels i believe the address is. 355 Plaza Drive, Secaucus NJ
It has hotels and small shops and movie theater. Parking garage is free. We park in Parking garage and take NJ transit city bus into NYC. bus stop is right outside of parking garage. Cost round trip ticket into NYC is $5.40 ( i think) you are in the city with in 10 minutes. Brings you right into the Port Authority

I think this is about 25 miles from Laguradia so there may be a closer look. Let me know if you need more detailed info. Good luck and have fun

I just want to say again how great eveyone is on this Board! As a military spouse I am use to having to use a lot of resouces for information...especially when you move every 3 years! But ya'll are absolutely wonderful! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Are plans are set now we have plane tickets, hotels, a rental car for 6 days thru National Emerald Club, so at least an intermediate, for 145 including taxes thanks to codes on Mousesavers, tickets to Little Women Discounted!, Reservations at Tavern on the Green for Dessert, American Girl Lunch Reservations, Reservations at the Sony Wonder lab, and we using Marriott Points to stay at the Marquis in time Sq! I hope to go to Grand Cental Stationa and a ride on the ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. We probably won't hit a musuem because the can be so time consuming with DD but we will see. We are so looking forward to this trip! :jumping1:

3/12 I have arranged for Carmel Car Service to Pick DD and I up at JFK car rental return at 11am. Dropping us off at the Marriott Marquis in Time Sq.

2pm Reservation at Sony Wonder Lab

After Sony we will return to our hotel to get ready for the theater, I am considering ordering dinner to be deliverd to our hotel room from Trattoria Trecolori. I think we would not be as rushed if we ate in our room

7pm Theater Tickets...Little Women. I already have our tickets how early should we arrive at the theater?

After the show I am contemplating Dessert at Tavern on the Green, via taxi.

3/13
I already have tickets for the Empire State Building which we can do at anytime of the day as well as the Royal Princess Court at the World of Disney at 4pm. I would also like to go to Grand Central Station, was considering lunch there, and also ride that Staten Island Ferry.

Was thinking a morning trip on the Ferry, then to the Empire State Building followed by Grand Central Station for lunch. Spend the rest of the afternoon shopping ending up at the World of Disney for 4pm show. Followed by some more shopping.

Any Suggestions?

3/14

I have requested tickets for GMA, we will see if I get them. I also have a lunch reservation at the American Girl Cafe at 11am. We will stay in the area between American Girl and our hotel the rest of the morning. We have a car pick up for 3pm to take us to JFK for our 755pm flight back to Germany.

Things I wish I could fit in a meal at Serendipity 3, but I am nervous about some of the reviews to cancel something else to fit it in, the History Museum ....but I think DH will enjoy that so we will do it with him and seeing some of the Cathedrals....it would be interesting to compare them to what we have seen in Europe.

What would you change?

We went to the city yesterday and hit the WOD store and WOW, it's so cool!!! It made me want to plan another trip!! We also went to FAO (soooo crowded!), the Central Park Zoo, and Ellen's Stardust Diner. Wow, Ellen's was great!!! The waiters and waitresses all sing and are REALLY REALLY good!! The food isn't so good, but it was really fun. I definately recommend it!

I'll second teh opinion on Ellen's!! We ate there last summer before going to the theatre and LOVED it!! We happened upon it by chance and I am so glad we did. Keep this in mind for another trip. This trip seems like it is jam packed!!

Hello! Although a bit closer to DC, Edison is sort of out of the way from NYC and the airport. In fact, you have to drive around the City to get to Edison. Although not as scenic (grin), Elizabeth might be a better choice if you want to hop into the City that evening... and it's right on the Turnpike. If you decide to stay in Edison, you may want to consider taking the high-speed train to DC... it's really quick and will cut-down on all that driving! Good luck!

It sounds like DD will ove Ellen's maybe we will try it after the WOD on the 13th.

I have decide I am going to drive down close to Baltimore the first night, I figured we probably wouldn't go back in to NYC from Edison and I have made a hair appt for the next morning just outside of Baltimore. So all we will have to do is wake up and run to the salon in the am, finish my haircut and we are just over an hour from my Hotel in DC.

Sounds like we have a lot of the same plans! You can use www.hotstop.com for both walking and subway directions.

EDIT the correct website should be www.hopstop.com

What are you looking for exactly? Did you try the hopstop website because it tells you exactly where to get on and off for where ever you want to go to.
