OT: Neighbor Just Arrested for Kiddie Porn

I was just watching the news and a 39 y.o. man in our neighborhood was just arrested for tons of kiddie porn on his computer, including photos of himself with children. I am so disgusted. We live in a development with several streets that are cul-de-sacs. He doesn't live right near us...his house backs up to the ones across from us. When I ever saw the house on the news I almost flipped out. And to top it off, they said he used to be an elementary school teacher.

What is wrong with these people. Please hold your kids close and watch over them.

I'm so sorry this happened in your neighborhood.

My neighbor across the street is a registered sex offender. We don't have details on what he did other than it was an offense against a "minor male child". They just moved in a couple years ago. I was friendly towards them until he status came up on an internet search a couple weeks after they moved in. Once I found out I just couldn't stomach being friendly. They complained to another neighbor (who happens to be the father of my daughter's best friend) that I was rude and disrespectful because I wouldn't wave at them or say hi. They asked why I was being so rude, and my neighbor was like "do you have to ask?"

So sorry it happened to you.I lived in a development where something similar happened.The guy was a married father of 2 that seemed like a normal family man.Always friendly and nice, then the police raided his house and found THOUSANDS of pictures of neighborhood kids and others.Some taken at neighborhood gatherings and some taken with a zoom lens thru windows , and some that were worse than that.truly frightening.

It is truly a troubling world we live in. I'm sure that this type of sick behavior has always been with us. Its just that now we have the internet and global news that brings it all into our living rooms. Everyday...all day.

Be sure to hold you kids close...know where they are...who they are with... and trust no one!

I could be wrong,but i think they put sex offenders in different units away from the other prisioners for that main reason. which i think is WRONG!!!

This is correct, at least locally to where I live. One of my co-workers used to work in a jail and he told me they have a special section just for the sex-offenders. So they do "protect" them from other "normal" inmates at least to some degree. I'm honestly not sure if they ever let them co-mingle for this very reason.

It is scary who can be living right in your neighborhood. I think it's scarier not knowing about them at all - like the people who haven't been caught yet.

I check the registered sex offender list for my neighborhood often, just so I can stay abreast of who's moving in -- just in case. A few years ago a student of mine had to be put in foster care. He'd come to school telling me how the foster mom never let them play outside -- even in the backyard. One day I was going through the students' registration cards and noticed the foster mom's address sounded so familiar to one I had seen on the registered sex offender list. I went to the website and looked up the neighborhood and sure enough, the address right next door to the foster mom's house was a registered sex offender (with minors). I told my student's social worker and because of other problems with that foster mom combined with this, they moved my student and his brother to a new foster home.

Isn't just living life becoming frightening? I have 10 registered sex offenders in a 5mile radius(that are registered, not all do).
