I know this is totally off-topic, but I'm asking here because this board feels like family. I hope that's okay.

This AM there was a message on my machine from DS's best friend telling me that DS (24) was in a hospital 2 hrs away. Evidently he was experiencing chest pain while teaching a TKD class. He had surgery a week ago Weds to remove a lump & the doctor's said he'd developed blot clots. (He was teaching w/o participating or demonstrating.)

I spoke with the BF this AM briefly & DS is in the one-day unit and they've attached a drain. That's all I could find out since the cell phones are off. (BF drove DDIL out last night so she could drive the car back.) BF was leaving to come back to work so now I'm waiting for DDIL to leave the building long enough to see that I called.

I could really use some prayer & pixie dust this morning if you have a minute.

Thanks!

Deb, I will say some prayers. I can only imagine the worry you are going through right now. Hang in there, Joyce :grouphug: :grouphug:

Just said a prayer for him. How scary. Keep us posted I hope everything will be ok.

Deb - You got it. Please let us know. :grouphug:

He's on his way home.

Well, I got tired of waiting for DDIL to turn on one of the cell phones & call me so I looked up the number for the hospital on the Internet. After explaining what seemed like 50 times that I had no info except his name & what he was there for, I finally found someone who got me through to DDIL. (God bless that woman...she promised to help me find him & didn't give up!)

He had surgery in the "wee hours" to remove the hematoma & insert a drain. He seems to be okay, but groggy as he's on Percoset.

When he had the original surgery, they put a drain in for 2 days because they had to go deeper & ended up with more fluid than they expected. He had so little pain that he never took anything except a couple Advil once the anesthesia wore off. He was supposed to go in this Weds to have the staples removed.

Last night he started to drive home & noticed that the area around the incision was starting to swell. It was filling up with fluid so quickly that his staples started popping. :earseek: So he pulled into a gas station to ask where the nearest hospital was. What I don't get (& will have to wait until they get home to ask) is whether he drove himself to the hospital or someone called for an ambulance. The hospital was over 30 minutes to the west of his original location, but he was headed east coming home. I can't imagine driving that far in that condition....but I'm just glad he went against his male nature & at least stopped for directions! ;)

It will be at least lunchtime before I hear from them again. I appreciate all the good thoughts here. I have to admit that I have this feeling I'm not getting all the info. DS only told me about the original surgery 2 days beforehand, which might be part of it, but I have real questions about what was removed (still no lab results). I've been trying to give him his space & privacy, but it's really hard since he'll always be my baby. :(

Deb - That's so hard. I wouldn't want to worry my mom, but you when you don't have all the facts, you worry more. Can you go to the hospital? I know you want to give them space, but your little boy is in the hospital and if you can work it out, you have the right to be there. :grouphug:

I'd have been in the car on my way out at 7AM if his BF hadn't said that he was in the same-day unit. Since it's a 2 hr drive I figured I stood a good chance of passing them on the turnpike.

DDIL is driving him home now to their apt. If I don't hear from them by 1:00 I'm calling DH & telling him to bring me the car so I can drive over! (They only live a few miles from me.)

It's just tough since he's always been so healthy - I've never had to worry about him before. :(

oh my -- sending you hugs and pixie dust for a quick recovery for DS!! keep us posted.. Michelle

Very good sign that he's coming home so soon! Maybe you can bring them lunch.

 I'm glad it looks like a positive outcome for your DS.

:grouphug: for you!!! Glad he's on his way home, you must have been terrified!! It's 1:02, did you hear from them?!? :confused3

Well, I just talked to DS and got a different version of events & medical status than DDIL gave me....but he was pretty drugged up. DDIL was getting prescriptions while we talked & then they were headed home to sleep. He did say that he was going to take a leave from both jobs - since he'd been doing too much TKD while teaching....no contact, just demo, but still. :(

Since they're skipping lunch, I guess I'll go see for myself when I take dinner over.

What a long stressful day!!!! Thanks for the update. :grouphug:

I'm glad it sounds like he will be alright and will have time off to rest. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Angel :grouphug:
