Hi,

In my children's school, each class does a creative project which is auctioned off during a school fundraising event. I am one of the parents in charge of the preschool (4 yr olds) class project and I am looking for new ideas. In the past, they have had things like wooden benches, bookcases, etc. They had the kids paint their hands and make handprints on the wooden objects. The items always come out great, but I'd love to do something different. There are probably 30 preschoolers in my son's class. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

What about quilts, aprons, does anyone knit or crochet things? You could also have them make picture frames or journal covers? HTH

Well, I'm not too crafty! But I did run our auction last year for our elementary school....the 2 biggest sellers: A shower curtain made by the kindergarten class - they took a regular vinal curtain, each student did a square with permanent marker, a mom stitched it together and put a liner behind it - it sold for $400! Then the other thing was a huge pop art thing...think Andy Warhol - a 5th grade class did portraits of the principal....she of course won the item for $200. let's see what else did we have...thumbprint bookshelf, huge flower pot painted by class, chairs painted.

Try the foam projects. You can them at Wal-Mart pretty cheaply. They can be stickers or you can use glue to put them together. Many different items...picture frames, crosses, door hangers, necklaces, crowns, pencil holders. You can get foam hats at Michael's.

My DD is going to decorate crowns at her princess/prince birthday party.

You could do garden stones. Use pieces of slate, have the kids paint them then use a gloss or sealer to seal them for outdoor use. Very cute and fairly easy to make.

You could do a Nice wooden calendar, one with the small wooden tiles for each day and on each tile you could place each childs thumb print in paint (since you have 30) and the teacher could make 31. The main theme could be a picture of the school or a class picture even (that may require a permisson slip from the parents to use the childrens photo however) The thumb prints will not need permission since they will not be clear enough for ID purposes. For each month you could have the children come up with a collective reason or holiday why it is special and make a theme. Just model it after those Kinkade style calendars with a nice stained finish.
Cheers :wave2:

I know a few years ago my DD school did a christmas tree skirt and it sold for a huge amount of money. If you have someone who could make the skirt or you could buy a plain one and have all the kids do hand prints.

What about scrapbook pages, or a classroom cookbook?

Wow - thanks for all of the great replies! I knew I came to the right place for suggestions! I really love all of the ideas and appreciate your help. I'm thinking the calendar and Christmas tree skirt ideas are exactly what they would want for the auction project. All of the other suggestions (frames, journal covers, etc.) are also excellent and would be great for the Christmas festival (another committee that I'm on). Thanks everyone! :)
