Sorry this isn't Disney related, but I know you all are full of all kinds of knowledge so I'm counting on you helping me out! My family and I will be travelling from Ohio to Myrtle Beach later on this summer and I was wondering if anyone had any information for me on where a good place to stop for the night would be. We don't really want to do the drive all in one day (kids are going along with older folks who don't want to be in the car that long). I have never been there before so this is all new to me! We are looking for a cheap, yet clean hotel to stop at for the night. If you have any information on general areas to stop or whatever it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance! :)

We have our place in Myrtle Beach already, what we are looking for is a good place to stop for the night on our way there. I think it is around 700 miles or so and we'd rather not do that all in one day. I was looking for suggestions on good cities to stop for the night between Ohio and Myrtle Beach.

I work part time in a convenience store in Lexington NC which is on the way to MB. We give tons of directions every day most of which is to the beach. We are 200 miles to the beach. If you are going our way Childress Winery is very close as well as RCR museum if you are Nascar fans. Our town is famous for BBQ. The best in the world!! We have a BBQ festival every year in Oct. If you're gooing through our area stop and enjoy!!!!!! You will love our BBQ.

I'm in Mansfield......
We went last year to Myrtle Beach. We took 77 South and stopped in Hillsville Virginia. Stayed at a nice newer Holiday Inn Express that had free breakfast in the morning. Not sure how expensive it was as we used points for the stay. I did the driving and was very nervous which means that I didn't go as fast as most people, especially through the hills and I believe it was an 8 hour trip with lunch and a couple of breaks thrown in. We picked up my husband the next day from the airport (took 3 hours and was a little out of the way) and from there it took 2-1/2 hours with him driving to get to Mrytle Beach. Have a fun trip!

I'm not sure which route you will take but the Greensboro/Asheboro area is good. If your interested let me know and I will give you more info.

It looks like we'll be taking I-77 all the way through Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia and into North Carolina, then US-52, I-40 and US-220. Any info you could give me would be great!

Then you will be going through Greensboro and Asheboro. There are alot of exits in Greensboro. A good one (although busy) is the Wendover West exit. It has many hotels and restaurants.

Asheboro is a smaller town but is not as busy. The NC zoo is located there. You will pass Greensboro first, this will be on 40 east. Soon after you will take 220 south toward Asheboro. If you decide on Asheboro you will take the exit that says Raleigh US Hwy 64 east. Go right off of the ramp, you will see a Burger King, McDonalds and some other fast food places. About a mile further down the road (Dixie Drive) there is a very nice Hampton Inn and a Holiday Inn Express. There are a couple more but I'm not sure about the quality of them. There is a Wal-Mart supercenter on the right past the 2 hotels I mentioned. There is also a small mall about a mile further on the left.
There are several good places to eat. The American Roadhouse has good food and it is a local place. There is also Chilis, Pizza Hut, KFC, Cookout, Arbys, Taco Bell, CiCi's Pizza, Chinese buffet (the one in the walmart strip is good), Papa Johns, Dominos, and a Golden Corral.

I would choose the Asheboro exit over the Greensboro because of the traffic and it is easier to get around.

There is also a WalMart, McDonalds, Taco Bell, Hardees, Wendy's, Subway and Bojangles on the Randleman exit which is a few miles before Asheboro. But there are not any hotels there.

Sadie

Myrtle Beach is about 3 hours from Asheboro.

Thanks for all the great info SadieG, congrats on the bump to Mouseketeer! :)

Hillsville gets my vote! :thumbsup2
I believe that we paid about $80/night, but it might be cheaper if you have AAA. We are from Northeast Ohio and have stayed here twice...nice, clean, safe place to stop for the night and it's a short ride to the beach the following day...
Have Fun! :goodvibes

Another vote for Hillsville, VA...and specifically the Comfort Inn Hillsville, VA. We stayed there last year on our way home from Ocean Isle (not far from Myrtle Beach) and paid either $89 or $99. The room was SPOTLESS and the free breakfast in the AM was very good. There were cookies and banana bread, iced tea, juice, etc at check in (and we checked in late...I think around 9pm).

When I complimented the staff at check out the next morning, they acted very flattered, and then I received a beautiful hand written note from management thanking my family for choosing the hotel and for the compliment about a week later, a nice touch!

We still talk about how we didn't care much for Ocean Isle, but would go back to Hillsville in an instant! :)

Have fun,
Jennifer

Hillsville has a gigantic flea market on Labor Day weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
