OT - My little Rachel going into the hospital on Monday

Rachel (age 7) will be going in on Monday to have a PICC line inserted in her arm, which is basically an IV line that goes into your arm, around your shoulder (on the inside) and into your heart area. It is designed to administer high doses of antibiotics. As some of you know, Rachel has late stage Lyme disease, which you get from a tick bite. Unfortunately we did not diagnose it for two years (awareness then was not what it is now) and it spread throughout her body. She did well on 6 months of IV last year, but after we pulled the line she started to decline again. I have spoken to many parents of Lyme-infected children who have told me that it often took a year or more on IV medicine to help their child. Also, it's hard to find the medicine that will work; it's different for everyone.

So, as we start our journey again, I hope you will keep Rachel in your thoughts/prayers on Monday.

Sending a "castle" load of pixie dust your way. It is always scary when our children are ill, and there is nothing we can do to make it better. I'm glad to hear that the Lyme Disease was finally diagnosed. Hopefully it won't take much longer to get rid of it.

You know I wish for only the best for Rachael. I know all will go well, she sounds like she will be a fighter and you are making sure she gets the care she needs.
And for everyone else, Rachael is starting a Princess collection. Her favorite is Snow White.
I guess I have to work on some trades, I have a very poor Snow White collection.

Erin is actually a neighbor of ours and her mom has been of tremendous help to me and to Rachel. Erin is a beautiful young lady of 17 now, and my hope is that someday Rachel can get back to the little girl she used to be, and follow in Erin's footsteps.
