OT: My DD arm broken at daycare, what next???

I'm sorry but I still can't understand why you and your child are still there.

I understand the need for a job , but gees look at the track record of this place over the years.

I'm sure jobs like this aren't easy to come by but sorry if it it were me and I seen the inside scoop on this place, I'd be seriously looking to get the heck out of there. ASAP

A concussion, a broken arm, whats next? , both unreported to you too, totally unacceptable. :confused3

I'm really sorry about your DD, mine was 2 yo and had the same type of fracture, so I know its really difficult for those poor little guys to carry around that heavy cast.

After all of those injuries and incidents you've just listed you still enroll your chilren there? I wouldn't work there just out of principle! WOW!!!

I'm so sorry your daughter got hurt!

My son broke his leg at daycare when he was around 4. Totally their fault. They had a toilet that was broken (would overflow when flushed) and they knew about it and continued to allow the children to use it. Not only unsanitary, but my son slipped and did a twist and split. Spiral fracture of the femur. My son also has Down syndrome. They called immediately and told me he was ok and was asleep This was around 11:30 am. Around 3:00 they said he was awake and acting like it hurt. I got there and he was solid white. He could have gone into shock. Long story short, I got an attorney later on. My son has an annuity set up for him now going to a trust later and I had the daycare (their insurance anyway) pay me and my husband back for personal days we had to use plus unpaid days. We didn't sue or anything, just had a settlement because what happened to him was wrong. My DH and I did not ask for any extra money for us (just what we lost), but we felt that my son was entitled to something for their stupidity, plus what if he has problems later because of it. That was a major break and tons of x-rays. Had he been hurt on the playground, then yes those things happen (but they should tell the parents about it!) He was in the hospital 2 weeks in traction and in a spica cast for 5 at home, so we had to take the time to take care of him. Work took about 8 of my personal days and then it switched to unpaid.

I hope she is feeling ok and does well with the cast!

Please report this place! If the only reason you found out that your daughter was hurt was because she told you herself, I shudder to think what is happening to the kids who are not able to talk yet! Please, for the safety of all the children there (for whom you are also responsible), report them.

Accidents happen. That is what personal days are for. I don't think the daycare should reimburse you for your personal days unless they were at fault. You did say you didn't think the counsler hurt your daughter on purpose. Plus you know their bad track record but yet you still work there and allow your daughter to go there.

After reading all your posts on this thread, it sounds like you let your daughter stay in a poor supervised situation and now you want money for it.

She should start with a lawyer or legal aid because as a parent and child care worker she not only has an obligation to make sure her own children are safe but that other people's children are safe. Working it out "in-house" only allows this horrendous daycare/preschool/camp facility to continue putting children in harms way.

The only part of the story that surprised me is that you didn't know what an "underdog" was.

j/k
I agree w/ the other posters.... get your kid the heck out of there and make sure you get the full story from the teacher etc...

Just a little update:
I got the number from the lady who's child head was busted so that a familiar person can act on it. I told you guys how they treated her before she left because of the court case going on with her son, well yesterday I was going to call the number but my co-teacher called out and the person they had in here with me I didn't want to know I was calling. Well as usually they wanted me to do them a favor and work late and I told them NO!!!!! Well that girl left to go take her cat to the vet while the building was short staffed at least by 3. She said the deputy director would be here by 3 to work until 5:30. WELL NO ONE CAME UNTIL I HAD TO CALL FOR HER AT 4:45P.M. SHE COME RIGHT DOWN SAYING SHE WAS IN A MEETING AND HAD AN ACCIDENT REPORT IN HER HAND:eek: SO SOMEONE ELSES KID MUST HAVE GOTTEN HURT TODAY.They are in for it when it all hits the fan.

I KNOW THEY LEFT ME ALONE ON PURPOSE BUT I HANDLED ALL 13 OF THEM WITHOUT ANYONE GETTING HURT,:thumbsup2 I HAD A HEADACHE BUT THAT WAS IT.

I am sending good wishes and thoughts for a speedy recovery for your daughter!
I do have to say though, that I fully agree with others who have advised looking for a new job and getting your daughter out of there before she gets hurt worse. There is no excuse in children being hurt like taht at a day care! It doesn't sound safe at all to me.
Good luck and I hope things work out well for you and your daughter.

She should start with a lawyer or legal aid because as a parent and child care worker she not only has an obligation to make sure her own children are safe but that other people's children are safe. Working it out "in-house" only allows this horrendous daycare/preschool/camp facility to continue putting children in harms way.

As a state licensed teacher and also a former daycare/preschool teacher you can do the above mentioned without a lawyer or legal aide. If you contact the state licensing agent for that particular daycare center they will come out and "investigate" and observe. Trust me, they will take care of it and the director of the center will have no way of knowing who contacted them. Once the state is contacted they will make many "surprise" visits just to make sure everything is in order. Trust me, they are often very picky and are just looking for something to write up. If they catch anyone doing anything "unsafe" or over their ratio the center will be written up and in serious trouble. Way more effective than getting a lawyer IMO.

I really don't get why you are still working there, haven't reported them, and most of all still had your child there. But I digress. As for the personal days, well you shouldn't be reimbursed. If you were working and your child was at a different daycare and got hurt you would still have to take off and you wouldn't get the time back. Just because her daycare is where you work doesn't make you exempt. Good luck.

You really need to get out of this situationm NOW!!!!!! In my area this center would have already been shut down for the incident involving the 4 year old leaving. I worked daycare for 4 years while getting my degree. I teach high school now. but i can tell you that in my opinion this is absolutely unacceptable and i don't think I could contimue to work in a place where I knew children were being hurt!!!!! Wether or not the adult in charge meant to hurt your daughter or not there is a serious lack of training here!!!! We were always fully trained on safety procedures and supervised with children before we were given a class on our own. We took kids swimming 3 times a week, and only had one incident in 3 years where i had to pull a child out of the water. The child did not listen to instructions and ran to the end of the dock faster than I could catch her. We ALWAYS reported and accident no matter how minor to parents. We were required by the state board to do so. It is ridiculous that this many childern have been hurt and it is being covered up!!! I am sorry for ranting but it really makes me mad to hear of something like this going on. Centers like this are why parents are afraid to leave their children anywhere!!!!
