My DS 15 is flying alone from Oregon to Washington, DC tomorrow and I am a nervous wreck!!! :scared1:

We have flown alot as a family but this will be his 1st solo adventure. He is very book smart but the every day common sense brain function is stuck in neutral! Typical teen I suppose.

I'm praying for on time flights as he only has 45 minutes to catch his connecting flight in Salt Lake.

Ok, off to "try" and get some sleep before we head for the airport at 3:00 am.

I am totally with you on this one. My son is 17 and I am still distraught when he has to do something on his own which is nuts since he's in second year at uni.
Despite all the concerns we have about our kids they really do OK when they have to so..............I am sending you a great big Koala cuddle from Australia and telling you that he will do great.
Big Hugs.
Trish

Our son (17) flew on his own for the first time this summer from Chicago to Santa Barbara for an engineering camp at a naval base. He had to change planes in L.A. We had him call us after arriving at each airport and he had no problem whatsoever. He has flown with the family several times, and last year we flew in to LAX so he was somewhat familiar with it. Your "baby" will be just fine!!

 big hugs to you! I don't blame you for being nervous, but I'm sure he'll be just fine.

Dd12 (11 at the time) flew from OH to NYC by herself this summer -she was fine!

He should be fine. My parents are divorced, and we used to fly all the time across the country at x-mas and in the summer by ourselves and never had a problem. I'm the oldest, and this happened from the time I was about 11 (although for the first couple times we had a flight attendant type chaperone to get to our connections,) but by the time I was 13 that had stopped. He should be okay, and even if he doesn't make his connection(if he's delayed) they should be able to get him on the next flight out.

I understand your concerns. I do not know how I am going to let these "babies" go :) It is soooo HARD. I am sure your baby will be fine.

I took my first solo trip when I was 16. I flew from Ohio to Ft. Lauderdale to visit my much older brother. When I was sitting on the plane I heard over the speaker "passenger ______ please press the flight attendant button". When the attendant got over to me he laughed and said, "this is from your mom!" It was a note my mom ran up to the desk outside the loading gate and asked them to give this to "her baby" who was flying alone for the first time. They thought it was so funny that her baby was a 16-year-old girl. :lmao: BTW- it was just a note to tell me again how much she loved me and was going to miss me.

:grouphug: Thanks everyone!!

We arrived at the airport at 4:30 am and his flight left promptly at 6:00.

I was able to go through security with him and hang out at his gate.

While we were waiting there a young gal noticed our convention paperwork and came over to inquire. Turns out she was going to the convention too, was all alone and has never flown before. It made me feel better knowing he had someone else. She was in seat 13A and he was in 14A, LOL!

I just heard from him and he has landed in Baltimore and was heading to find his suitcase and shuttle. :thumbsup2

Ok, now I can go nap!

Glad he made it there safely. MY ds's flew bu themselves this past summer to join dh and I in FL. They had a 7:30 am flight. They got a call at midnight that their flight was cancelled. THey tried getting through to the airlines but were having trouble. At 1 in the morning they called us and told us,. I was able to get through and get them on Sat morning flight and they would have lost a full day. They went to the airport and got themselves on standby at 2 in the afternoon and only lost a 1/2 of day.

He wil be fine.
