DD is 16 months old and is becoming a terror when it's nap or bed time lately. She does fine if we all sleep on the floor and she does fine sleeping on the floor by herself lately. Heck the other day she crashed on the floor and took a nap. But if I put her in her crib with her lovey and her music on she screams and tosses her loveys on the floor. I'm curious if anyone found that moving their 16month old to a toddler bed helped or if they just let them cry it out. Her crib converts to a toddler bed with the rails on the one side. So the drop side of her crib comes off and 2 bed rails get hooked on. I am just worried that she won't stay in her bed and go to sleep then.

Need advice and really want this under control soon. I start back with classes next month and lack of sleep is already killing me after 3days. And I'm not sleeping on the floor with her anymore!!

Thanks,
Margaux

I went through something similar with DD when she was about 18 mo...she suddenly refused to nap but would crash while playing because she NEEDED one. I found that I had to adjust her nap time some..it needed to be a bit later than it was, and I did let her cry it out in her crib. I think that part was harder on me than her...
Personally 16 mo is awfully young to put in a toddler bed, as they can get up and wander..I put it off as long as I could..was forced to switch when she started to try to climb out..but she was over 2 yrs old as well.
We are going through this again..she will now only nap on the couch..and I have to lie down too to get her settled. Biggest problem with that is iI tend to fall asleep too

We got a toddler bed for DS and then just put a gate on his door at night. I was scared he would get out of bed (make sure if she is a climber that tall furniture is secured as not to tip), but it turned out he loved to have a big boy bed. He picked out fire truck bedding and then we got a toddler bed "tent" from Ikea. He is still using that bed and he is going to be 4 in December. Maybe let your child pick out new bedding and make it seem like a fun new adventure and give her some choice in the transition.

I've also gone through this "transition," and it is NO FUN! With my DS and now my DD, we've had to do the cry it out thing. I hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it. But I have found that as soon as I give her an inch, she takes a mile. The longer you cater to them the harder it will be to get them back on track. I agree with PP, 16 months does seem young for a toddler bed. But then again, every kid is different. Personally, I'd lay down the law - I know, I know, way easier said than done - and focus on the crib. Perhaps your DC is simply seeing how far they can go! Those little Neanderthals. :-)

Hang in there - it is a phase, and it will pass. No matter what you decide to do, stick to the plan. Good luck!!! :-)

My sister is going through this right now too. She has a 17 month old daughter who is a climber. The last time she was at the pediatrician, she was told to put her in a twin bed before she killed herself climbing out of the crib. Her daughter is even getting to the point that she is telling her mom that she wants to sleep in the big bed.

Today I went over and helped her get the bed ready for tonight. We got rails put on the bed and made it up for her daughter. She needed to make the move anyways since in a few months she will have two more babies and will be needing the crib for them.

Good luck to all you parents trying to make that change.

We made a huge deal out of moving into a big bed for DD. We picked out new sheets with her help (Dora) and we moved in the new bed. She didnt fuss, she stayed in the thing. We did have a hard time getting her to give it up when she out grew it! We had to go thru the whole thing again with new sheets, new pillow, fancy new twin bed for her. This was her old toddler bed that I got at toys r us. http://www.babysupermarket.com/baby...d=froogle&key_id=Step2SnoozeNCruiseToddlerBed
