Some of you may remember my nephew, Luke from around Christmas time.

Luke has a rare genetic disorder called a mitochondrial disease. He'll never get better from it but the doctors dot heir best to slow its progress and treat the symptoms as they manifest themselves. He has spent most of his 2½ years in & out of the hospital. At Christmastime, we nearly lost him. The prayers of many people here and in many churches were answered and he's still with us.

On Friday, my DB and SIL got the call from MAW. Can they be ready to go this Thurdays?!!!!! They are so thrilled! Luke has an older brother and sister. Since Luke was born, the family has been unable to take any kind of vacation together. Luke just requires too much care. MAW is send them and Luke's nurse!

Please say a prayer that Luke stays healthy enough to make the trip. It means so much to DB and SIL to take the family on this vacation and to make a memory.

Where are they going?? Make a wish sent us to Disney and on the big red boat when my godson was 4. They were so great to us, limo, spending money, character breakfast prebooked, it was a trip we will always remember!

They're going to Disney World! But the children won't be told until they're on the plane because Luke's health is always a big question mark. I knew that MAW has told them that they would consider sending them when Luke reached 2½ (which was this week). We never dreamed thatt hey would say "Happy 2½ Birthday...you're going to Disney World!"

Thats great! Matt was sick at 2 but they didn't grant any wishes until they were at least 4 here, they said they wanted to make sure it was the kids wish and not the parents ...but even at 4 a kid could be swayed by the parent. They want the kid to be able to ask on their own here but I am glad yours got his wish early!!

I hope your nephew has the best time ever. Our family is going in July, and we're so excited. We're staying at Give Kids The World Village. http://www.gktw.org Please keep us posted on how it all goes.
God Bless,

God Bless,

My godsons sister was just at Give Kids The World with her school band..they put on a performance for the kids there. I am sure she had mixed feelings about seeing all those kids, must have reminded her of her brother but she said it was a really nice place. MAW put us up at the Polynesian because it was part of the land/sea cruise at the time but we did drive over to see give kids the world a few years ago and it looked really nice there!

That is wonderful - Give Kids the World Village and MAW is the best. My DD got a trip to WDW back in 2001. We celebrated her 5th birthday there. It was all so special and a time we will never forget. Praying that things go well that your nephew and family can have a magical vacation.

Melinda

PS - If they have any questions - please feel free to PM me, I would love to help.

DS went on his MAW trip to Disney last April. We stayed at GKTW and it was WONDERFUL. So much has changed for him in a year. I can't BELIEVE how much healthier he is after his transplant. I think I didn't realize how sick he really was. But I digress--have a FABULOUS trip!!!

:Pinkbounc I will be praying for little Luke and his family. I hope they have a very magical trip.:D

As a volunteer for the CT chapter of Make-A-Wish (and former intern AND part-time employee!), I just LOVE reading happy stories from families. In the three years that I've been involved with the Foundation, I have seen so many magical things happen for families. My good fortune was the main reason I wanted to help other families have their wishes come true, and it's been worth every second of my time.

I know that Luke and his family will have an amazing time making magical memories!!

PS - I'm currently just an office volunteer, but come June, I'll officially be a trained Wish Granter!!:hyper:

Sending Pixie Dust for a magical trip. MAW is truly a wonderful organization. A kid from my school was sent to Orlando to swim with the dolphins at DC, with his best friend two years ago, just 2 weeks before he lost his battle with leukemia. MAW does extraordinary things. I hope Luke has a great time!!!

That is so great for Luke and the entire family!! Nothing like a little well needed rest and some quality family time. I hope their trip is magical.

My neighbor who lived above me died in her 90s and left everything to her daughter. Unfortunately her daughter died two years later in her 50s, but then she left everything to MAW. Two CA condos were worth over a million. It was so sad to lose both of them but everyone was so happy that she had the foresight to set it up to do so much good with the estate. She had no children.
