I was wondering if anyone could recommend a physio in the Toronto area - preferably in the North York or downtown Toronto area. I'm having some problems with my knee related to running and my doctor gave me a prescription to go see someone but she didn't gave me a name :)

Any ideas as to what I should be looking for in a physio? I did a quick search on Google and there seems to be a lot of them out there.

TIA!

I've had knee trouble for 5 years and it is now affecting my hip. I did the physio thing for a long time with only minor success. If you have insurance to cover the cost than go for physio. If you don't and have to pay then go to an Athletic Therapist instead. I've had far more progress since I started with the AT...mine is also an Osteopath so I kind of get the double whammy.

As far as what to look for in a Physiotherapist.....try to find someone who doesn't use a lot of machines. They do a more manual treatment.

If you want to travel to Mississauga I have the name of a PT who treats olympic athletes. I went to a Dr who specializes in rehab medicine and she wants me to see this PT. The DR says that she has worked with this therapist for many years and she could ALMOST guarantee me results. I couldn't go at the time because I had run out of insurance for the year. My insurance does cover the osteopath so I had to go that route. I do plan to go and at the very least have a consultation with this PT that was so highly recommended.

Good luck !!!

I'm trying to converse money right now - naturally that's why I have another trip to Disney planned :upsidedow (that's the answer I always get from my friends). So I'd rather not travel to Mississauga if I can avoid it. I made an appointment with a PT on the recommendation of a friend - it turns out their office/gym is around the corner from me. We'll see how that goes - if I don't like them, I might end up asking you for the name you have :goodvibes

The insurance I have only covers 50% of the PT cost and there's a maximum amount they'll cover too - I'm not sure how far that will get me. I'm going to see if they will give me some at home exercises and not just machine workouts.

I found a great physio in the Richmond Hill area if you are interested!

I could not move my shoulder at all. I am now back to usual after attending his sessions and doing the excercises he recommended.

Send me a PM and I will provide the info you require.

My fiance is right at the border of Steeles Ave so Richmond Hill is doable for me :) You know I might just end up sending you a PM - the "physio" appointment I made, might be with a chiropractor. I got an e-mail from the clinic to confirm my appointment and on it has me down for a chiropractic assessment - what? :confused3 The person who made my appointment assured me that the chiro and the PT will do the same thing. I think she missed the part where I said I had a prescription for a PT. Oh well, my fault too for not clarifying either until after the 24 hr cancellation period passed :( My insurance covers PT and chiropractic services separately so I guess I'll go and see what happens.
