Ok, I screwed up. Just bought a new laptop on Boxing Day and what do I do? I pick it up by the screen and the twisting motion breaks the screen!:scared1: So, I'm driving home, stop in at the Belleville Future Shop and the guy tells me to order a new screen from screencountry.ca and have it shipped to my house, then take it to them for installation.

So, for you techies out there, is this something simple enough to do on my own? If not, does anybody know which store may do the installation cheaper than the $80-$100 that Future Shop will charge me?
Lately I'm on the road a lot so I can likely drive to someone who has good value.
Thanks!:goodvibes

With any laptop I've seen, it's not something you'd want to try on your own. They often use special screw head shapes (such as pentalobes) that you're not going to have the screwdrivers for. Plus the connectors and other parts are really small and crammed into a small space. I'd say $80-$100 is a fair price.

i had the same problem a few years ago with my screen it is very difficult to change the screen if you dont have the proper tools and dont remommend people to do it if they have never done it before cause you may end up messing your whole laptop up 80-100 is actually pretty cheap ive seen any where from 200 and up

Thanks loads for your input. Believe it or not, I do have various tools for just the repair, but I won't risk it just the same. Better to focus on tonight's hockey game (intermission now) and focus on DW in November!:cool1:

My DH just went through this, he actually crushed his screen (dont ask!) anyway, he ordered one and put it in by himself HOWEVER he is a Landrover tech and is very mechanically inclined and does wiring/car computer repairs as part of his job. He said it was very simple but it does void your warranty-oh, and his screen was ordered from a US place and came to 83 dollars including tax and shipping
