DH came home yesterday and said that the KK store in Kitchener has closed. I did a search and found this article: Krispy Kreme

I, for one, like KK donuts and I'm sad that some stores are closing. :( I hope they don't disappear entirely from around here.

I am not a big doughnut fan, but I do enjoy a KK now and again especially when the light is on!! I don't drink coffee either so Tim Horton's won't be getting any extra business from me. If KK had coffee with the rep of Timmy's it would be doing just fine here. Just another good reason to head south....... :cool1:

There was a Krispy Kreme in the Supercenter around the corner from my house that closed recently as well. I love their donuts but I'll admit that I'm not one of their best customers anymore because of my diet :(

Gone are the days when I can buy (and eat :scared1: ) a dozen of their tasty treats. :rotfl:

A friend in Richmond Hill told me that the KK store there closed recently.

The London store closed last Sunday. :( We got our last dozen last Saturday.

Yep KK closed in London I used to drive by it everyday never stopped there I am a Timmies guy myself.

I think as Canadians - we are very loyal and used to Tim Hortons. I loved KK but always ended up back at timmy's

It is kinda funny I was watching a news article on CTV awhile back about KK and Tim Hortons and they talked about how KK was struggling here but Tim's is thriving in the US with 50 stores across the northeast US and a planned 50 more for the Northwest. They have plans to be in all 50 states in the next 5 years they said on the news. They interviewd people in Buffalo at a Tim hortons and they all said they loved the doughnuts and all the other stuff Timmies had to offer especially the coffee.

I shop at the Loblaws next to the ex-Krispy Kreme in London. I wondered why I didn't smell doughnuts on my last visit. I did drive by today and saw that Krispy Kreme's windows were covered. I never actually went there - planned to just never made it. I guess those low-carb diets killed it.

This is becoming a derelict corner - old Canadian Tire, No Frills and (that garden place - what was it called?) all sitting empty. Now this. One end of Westmount Mall (near Zellers) is almost completely shuddered. It's kind of how I feel when I see Timekeeper and Wonders of Life boarded up.

Does anyone know if the KK on Mavis Rd in Toronto is closed too? Was that the Supercentre location, Vicky?

I wish I had known that stores were closing and I would have had DH stop in and bring a last box home too, Mary Liz. They were sweet, yes, and also expensive but I did like them on occasion, especially warm. When our Walmart started carrying them, I would buy a box now and then. I guess they won't be there either.

Wayne, not so long ago we had stopped in at the one in London and I was very surprised at the location. It was out in the middle of nowhere and we were the only ones there.

I don't know is this is true but, a friend told me once that 1 KK glazed doughnut has as much fat as a BIG MAC. That really grossed me out and I never had another one. So, for all of our good health we should be glad to see them go.

KK Donut 200 cal. 12 grams fat
Super size Fries 610 cal 29 grams fat
Big mac 530 cal 33 grams fat
Starbuck Frappacino 270 cal 4 grams fat

There ya have it! Those super size fries will kill ya!

I had a KK doughnut in the states and it was terrible it was supposed to be like a Timmies Boston Cream but was all crunchy and granular from that point on I will never tough another KK doughnut again.

My friend bought some KK donuts once. We ate some then put them away. 3 days later they were still soft as if they were fresh. We had to wonder what kind of chemicals they were putting into them to make them that way!! I like sweets but even the KK donuts were too sweet for me.

And yes, the Richmond Hill one did close a while ago.

Julie,we were up at Mavis a few weeks ago and that location was still open but nobody wanted any so we didnt go in.

There is one in the Costco / Home Depot plaza on Wilson Ave near the 401 and Allen Expressway (on the other side of the 401 from Yorkdale Mall). We were there yesterday morning and it is still open. It was around 9:45 am on a Sunday morning and there were only two or three more customers that came in during the half-hour we were there...mind you, according to the signage, they weren't going to be making hot donuts until 11:00 am so maybe that was why the place was so empty and I think they start a manager's special of two dozen for $9.99 when the "hot donuts" light is on.

According to the Krispy Kreme website, the stores that are still open in the GTA are this one, Mavis Rd. and Scarborough Town Centre.

Thanks for the updates Kelly and Mech8T7. :)

I was in our local Walmart on Saturday and they still had their KK display so I bought a box of the originals in case that would be my last opportunity. I'll have to tell DH that Mavis is still open because he is occasionally in Toronto on business.

I did wonder where the Walmart KK's came from, if there were no more stores open.

The KK in the underground mall by the Sheraton Centre closed a couple months ago. I tried there and found them very over-rated. I'll take Timmy's double-double and a Boston Creme any time.
